     hi,

i have been offered a mk3 vr6 as mentioned above. it is an L reg with 131k 3dr. has orignal bbs wheels. one rust patch about size of a 50p on the passenger side rear qtr where his wife backed into him. it off a guy from work so i know he would try and pull a fast one. at first he wanted a 1k but now he has brought another car he said he would be happy if i give him £700. what do you guys think? was thinking of buying it and putting my mk4 up for sale Confused oh and he is only the second owner. the first owner was his friend who is retired and has the reciept of purchase £23k Surprise

Sounds cheap to me they seem to be going for anywhere between £1500-£2000 in the trader for lowish milers with fsh, if you do buy it and its a pudding you can always give him a good shoeing!

OBD1 (pre 95ish) is 174bhp, OBD2 system (95 - 98) are about 185 plus, mine was a top spec 97 with every extra going on it, so I put it up for what I wanted not nesscessarilly what everyone was saying it was worth,

i see. i have seen a few advertised with the same sort of spec for about £1200, so mine sounds like a good deal. some of the ones on pistonheads said they were 174bhp aswell.

    The MkIII golf 2.8L 12v VR6's were 174bhp but the corrado 2.9l 12v vr6's were slightly more with 190bhp.  The MkIV 2.8L 24v V6 4motion engines were 204bhp, and the MkIV R32 3.2L 24v V6 4motion are 240bhp.

Still, a VR6 for £700 is still pretty cheap.  If i had the time, i'd take it and give it a good home.  Well worth working on for a while rebuilding to bring it back to glory

    Hi Mate,

Just my 2p, but the Mk 3 doesn't have a patch on the Mk4 for looks or refinement, you'll also miss the turbo, I bet.  It does sound like a cheap, honest car, but if it was me, I'd stick to the Mk 4.

My dad's got a 1995 VR6,   its well strange to drive.

Absolute no power below 3000rpm,  and then from 4000+ it wakes up and roars to the red line!

It feels like monumental turbo lag driving that car!

Did you feel the same when you test drove that one?

yes i did, i even went back to him at work and said it seemed like it was "holding back a bit" i just put that down to thinking i was to used to boost. glad you have said that now.I am thinking about sticking with the mk4. would of been nice as a little project on the side, but realisticly i dont think i could afford to run 2 cars Sad

Has it had regular servicing?  i.e have the chains been done on it?  Sounds like a great deal, even to buy and punt on if you don't fancy it.

Any other information on the spec, got any pics?

could get some information on it mate. it was owned by a bloke who had retired before him. he was a friend of his who still has the original purchase receipt. he said it has fsh, dont know if its all vw. £700 is a good deal for it. the only modified buit on it is a full scorpion exhaust. sounded pretty good on my little test drive. i went through as many tunnels as i could Cool
