It's interesting to see how cheap Mk IV R32's are now getting... at least £3k cheaper than 6 months ago. I feel sorry for anyone trying to sell one in the current economic climate, there are plenty of deluded private sellers still trying to sell them for £14k+. I don't think they stand a chance when franchised dealers are starting to sell them at this price.....

    yeah,   prices are sliding fast,

tough economic times,  people are properly skint at the moment, I know I am!

Added to that, the mk4 r32's are approaching 5years old+,   some coming upto 5.5years old,  it's done well to retain 50%++  of it's value.

What I'm not liking is the amount of chavvy drivers I seem to see driving them around lately!

Sellers are really trying to hang on to top prices that could be achieved last year.

I went to see one a couple of weeks at a indie dealer who wanted VW dealer price(admittedly it was top spec sat nav, sunroof, cruise, leather etc etc).

I offered what I thought was a fair price for the current climate which he declined and only came down £300 odd.

Especially as the haldex had never been changed and had a advisory from feb 07 that it needed new disc's and pads all round.

He did say "Its fully loaded with all the options" with which I replied "Well factory options only add an extra few quid to the price".(Which is exactly what the dealers say come PX time).

I see its still up for sale and and he has lowered the price by the £300 he dropped for me!

I think I might review the situation come christmas.

Its the economic climate, not so much a case of these cars being undesirable more a case of people siomply cant afford to run maintaiin them.

Alot of the cheaper once are high mileage, say 100k at this mileage all sorts of crap can go wrong with the haldex and engine if its been ragged,

U gotta really want one to pay to keep one,

The seller will probably still have the R32 come Christmas !! V6 4 Motions values are sliding very rapidly as well, again franchised dealer prices are looking more realistic than private sellers. However, they'll soon be so cheap it will be worth buying one and keeping it as an ornament !

Cars with big engines are going out of fashion due to current oil prices.

But it looks like theres a demand for 1.8 turbos and 1.9 tdi's the thing for me is that with a 1.8 T it's just a 1.8 off boost and there for gets far better mpg than a 3.2 but on boost and tuned up it's just as fast as one.

I've always liked the turbocharged noise and even though i mis the sound of the vr6 i no longer drive i still find the turbo noise is better.

But it's the sign of the times.

1999 mk4 golf 1.8T agu, current mods - standard panal filter / drilled air box, custom code stage 1 remap, with 4 bar fuel pressure reg, new 288mm brake discs with mintex pads.
Future mods - turbo back jettex exhaust, silicon turbo intake pipe, forge split-r valve, lowering kit, & them some nice 18 inch wheels with 225 width tyres.

You can pick up a grade 4 Evo from www.ibcjapan.co.jp for 5-6k.  but then again, you still have to pay for the running of the thing!

Probably. The registration plate doesn't belong to that car (although it could have been recently transferred).

It looks a very nice late registered car with low mileage, however, it's still very overpriced, and in my opinion the 3 door (like previous Golfs) will become a more desirable 'classic'.

Although it had double the average mileage, that's low. However, I've heard of garages starting to refuse p/x's on big engined petrol vehicles, so at least he managed to p/x it. I'm sure he would have been able to sell it privately for a realistic price... I would have given him £5k if it was half decent !!

Yeah it's a nice car i had a quick drive it in. A few mods to it aswell a really nice sounding exhaust, I quiet fancied it but after the Test drive it was sat on 8mpg lol

They are turning a lot of cars away at the moment as you say so there are some proper bargains out there at the moment.
