Hi there, what different options are available for shortening the throw on my 6-Speed box?

I had a look on the Forge website but it seems there product doesn't work with 1.9 TDI's

I have also heard a genuine part from a TT can be used and modded to shorten the shift?

I have the Forge adjustable on my 6 speed TDi box with no issues at all, really makes a difference Yes

neil do you have both the side-side, and front-back kit?

does it make a noticeable difference in the ability to change gears quicker?

I only have the front back kit and not the side shift kit but it has reduced the throw by over 50% at half adjust and the change feels more possitive

I bought the Forge shifter at Inters and must say that i am well impressed with it, definately makes a big difference to shifting speeds.

A big Yes to Forge for an excellent product, it does the same job as the Neuspeed item at about half the price.

So Forge seems to be the one to go for?

Did you save much £ buying at Inters?

Right got one, got a good discount from Forge and nice fast delievery - great service!

Installed it after giving everything a good clean / regrease etc but I am stuck at the allignment stage - it's the 6 spd box so after installing the locking pin (nail) at the shifter end I need to push the tower down which I am while trying to push the locking pin underneath in - this is where i'm stuck, I am fairly sure I have the right bit (as per photo in instructions) but can't get it to budge, even with a large screwdriver - i've left it soaking in PlusGas for now and will try again later, any tips?

Also tried hooking the cables back up and everything seems to shift fine and can engage all gears - just don't want to put any exessive force on the cables when the engine is moving so would rather allign it properly if i can...

Not driven it yet as I am cleaning the BMC filter and there is no oil in the gearbox, lol!

You can drill through your stock shifter to make your own quick shift if you have the tools.

Most after market quick shifters are just that - VW OE part with either multiple holes or a slider drilled in them for different points of adjustment.

    alignment tool?

i just set mine to shortest and bolted it on.

to remove the old one is a bit tricky, you undo the nut but leave it ontop still, then jam something under the shifter to hold it up and use a hammer and 6"extension bar on the socket give it a good whack to free it off.

    where is it more notchy?

have a check that the shifter is not hitting the side shifter when you change up and accross(ie 2 to 3 and 4 to 5)

mine was and i needed to grind a bit off, now it's smooth

Yes, I was thinking of doing this myself. How would i re-attach the spindle bit (where you clip the cable onto) which you need to move closer to the pivot point. You cant weld it to the shifter as the shifter is cast and the spindle bit is metal.
