     Hi,

I have a 2001 GT TDi 130, when I had it serviced the mechanic, who definately knows his stuff swore blind that my engine is not a PD & didn't require the special oil. All I can say is it goes like one & sticker in the boot says ASZ. So what is the difference?

It does require the special oil, ASZ is a PD engine i used to own an 02 GT TDI 130. Your mechanic is wrong this time, and if he doesn't think it's a PD then he won't have put PD oil in it, i would drain out the existing oil and refill with PD spec oil or take the car back and insist he uses PD oil in the car. It's important the correct oil is used on a PD engine.

    Yes

Doesn't a PD engine have a higher compression or something like that?

PD stands fo Pumpe Deuse as mentioned above. It's a type of high pressure diesel injection, although the more modern MK5 uses a common rail.

The PD system is VW's branding of the unit injector. Each injector has it's own injection pump. The fuel is supplied to the injectors at low pressure then injected into the cylinders at a much higher pressure. The ASZ engine is definately PD and will require special oil.

    GT..... It's good to torque

2.0TDI are common rail. All 100,105,115,130,150 tdi's are PD, 90 and 110 are not.

"The unit injector combines a high-pressure pump and nozzle with a solenoid valve to form compact assembly. As a result, high-pressure lines are no longer necessary and injection can be controlled by the integrated and extremely precise solenoid valve at pressures of up to 2000 bar. Each cylinder has a unit injector fitted between the valves in the cylinder head."
