Well it’s time to announce my ride!

She’s a 2002 Anniversary 1.8T number 0563, and was bought from another VW enthusiast with 71k on the clock, 100% standard, with full VW history from new and only two owners, for a very reasonable price - only due to corrosion on the alloys (the usual Anni problem). After specifically looking for months for a pristine black Anniversary, and with this one ticking all of the boxes and passing a RAC vehicle inspection with flying colours, I’m very happy! Smile

While waiting for insurance I’ve detailed the bodywork, de-badged the front and rear Golf/GTI badges, and added a few things:

    Engine:
Evolution Motorsports (EVOMS) V-Flow Intake (thanks Luke!)
    Forge FMCL007P Diverter Valve

    Exterior:
German Style Plates w/ ABT / Wolfsburg Surounds
    Genuine Rear Aero Wiper Kit
    OEM Sharan Replica Aerial

    Chassis:
Refurbished 18” x 7.5” Anniversary BBS RC’s in Liquid Anthracite (thanks Josh!)
FK 15mm Rear Hubcentric Spacers (thanks Gary!)

I will be keeping the car more-or-less standard (as many will be glad to hear!), with a few OEM+ modifications planned and quite possibly some other performance/handling related upgrades in the future. All will be shown in this thread!

I’ll let the latest pictures do the talking (although I hope to get some better ones taken soon!) - Hope you like, as I certainly do! Big Smile

Thats mint Mark. Loving the anthracite bbs rc refurbished alloys, they add that touch of class to the car. How do you find the radio signal with the sharan replica ariel? I had one on my Anni but sold it on as i like listening to the radio when i go to work.

Thanks mate Yes - I planned to have quite a stealthy look so I thought that the anthracite would help create that and keep the car a bit unique from the rest!

To be quite honest I haven't listened to the radio as I mostly listen to CDs! I guess it's more form over function! Embarrassed

Cool, do you have spacers on the front?

Nope no spacers on the front at the moment - will probably be opting for coilovers eventually so I will have some 5mm ones fitted then to prevent any clearance issues!

I think the rear ones really do improve the stance massively, but the effect didn't come out as well in the pics! Indifferent

Do you notice much of a difference with the spacers on the rear when driving?

Nope! But then again I haven't driven it without them! I'm presuming there isn't much difference (if anything I would think it may grip slightly better?), but I'm sure others will be able to be a bit more helpful! Smile

    Looks good Mark!

Re spacers - none needed up front. I have coilovers which have been very low at some point with no problems. What you may need is an ARB with larger hoops to clear the driveshaft though (I did).

Well I must say I do like the look of the US spec rears (would go with the red and black theme Stick out tongue ) so I may add them to my to-do list!

Got a bit worried driving with the plates (although they did quite get a lot of attention with people thinking it was an import of some kind Big Smile !) so I've reverted back to legal ones (and a good job too as I've coincidently passed quite a few police cars since)!

Time for a marmite mod... all the way from Connecticut, USA! Big Smile

I know many of you won't like, but I personally love the look on black, and the general consensus I've had from other people is that it looks good! Stick out tongue

Rain (don't worry, I quickly removed the cover afterwards!)... Sad But here's where Natty's Paste Wax really shows off! Wink

And finally, the EVOMS kit fitted:

Currently it's not running a CAI, but as you can see, the heatshield shields any engine heat from the filter, and the intake is located to the right of the battery. I will probably mount the tubing eventually, when I have more time! Smile

    Thanks!

I was thinking about black badges but then didn't know if it'd be 'too' dark or not as the chrome helps break it up a bit! May have to try some out though! Smile

So Mark, are you liking the sound of the EVOMS yet...?

I have to say a ver very smart car!!! (Its all about the black anni's!)

Like you, I am in need of slamming mine on its arse, a bit. Any other mods in the pipelines?

For the rear lights you could always get the Hella RBBR like what I did...it replaces the dark smoke in the light cluster for black. Another OEM+ mod (I got mine for a v.good price from Cambely Auto factors!)

Oh, and I thoroughly reccommend de-locking the drivers side door. Parts cost £10 and fitting takes all of 2 minutes to do. I reccomend it becase not only it looks a bit better, but also for the security advantages.

For modding there is always: cruise control, heated seats, one-touch indicators, S3 strut braces, uprated rear ARB, milltek, remap, etc. etc. etc.

Thanks mate - yup the EVOMS sounds great - nice little purr on tick over too! :)

No other mods planned for now really about from possibly some ICE - I am toying with the idea of coilovers and ARBs to lower just another 30mm or so, but I still want the car to be driveable over the steepest of speed humps (grrr!), and it's finances permitting at the moment!

A remap is definitely on the list within the next few months - I would like a Milltek but they seem so expensive for the 1.8Ts! How do you like the CC map as I was thinking of going for them with their offer at the moment?

Have a delock kit ready, I just need to get it painted - do you know if the best place to get paint is from a VW dealer?

Can the Recaro's be heated? :)

no idea about the recaros, but a rear ARB is a must  !!!   thats if you want to improve the cornering ability of the mk4 as stock is pretty poor, this wont affect the ride quality also, so need to worry about that

regarding the paint, just get your chassis no/ or VIN number and ask for the paint spray and laquer spray for touch up at VW.

Thanks mate - yup the EVOMS sounds great - nice little purr on tick over too! :)

<i>True...but even nicer on full throttle</i>

No other mods planned for now really about from possibly some ICE - I am toying with the idea of coilovers and ARBs to lower just another 30mm or so, but I still want the car to be driveable over the steepest of speed humps (grrr!), and it's finances permitting at the moment!

<i>For ICE I just put a sub in mine using the standard head unit and I must say it does sound a lot nicer. I thought the standard ICE sounded alright, but was just lacking a bit of bass. I am the same regarding suspension setup as you, I do believe coilovers will allow for my demands (being so flexible), but there is a slight issue with the finances.</i>

A remap is definitely on the list within the next few months - I would like a Milltek but they seem so expensive for the 1.8Ts! How do you like the CC map as I was thinking of going for them with their offer at the moment?

<i>The cost of Milltek and the apparent marginal difference is what put me off getting one also. TBH the standard anni tailpipe is not exactly bad looking to start off with anyway. CC remap=Best mod I ever did. I was not sure of the difference as the Anni's are 180 as standard...but I was very wrong!!! And with 30% off I think it is a very good deal. I did do a write up of it somewhere.</i>

Have a delock kit ready, I just need to get it painted - do you know if the best place to get paint is from a VW dealer?

<i>Yeah, go to VW. I got mine from Halfrauds, but had to respray it again at a later date as the paint did not match!</i>

Can the Recaro's be heated? :)

<i>Seems a bit expensive to do and not sure the benefits will be major on a cloth seat...but it can indeed be done</i>
There are also the other simple things to do when you colour code the delock kit...sharan rear VW badge colour coded, and also the front GTI grille badge...but I see you have removed it.
TBH the mod list is endless...not quite sure if thats a good thing or not...?!
