I have my bolf up for sale, and cannot decide on a next car!!

I started off with a c-class with a budget of around £7k.  I have been advised to get a post 2004 model, which work out more than 7k......out goes that plan then!

I think the budget needs to be imcreased slightly, so a little more saving needs to be done.......rather than spending 8-9k on a c-class, i have the following options.....

A BMW 5 series, like a 2.5 litre or something.....I have driven my cousins one, i think he has the 2.0 version....
Some people may say its worth going for a 3-series, but i feel way too many people have them on the streets

or and audi a4.....around 2002-2003 model......i have seen the 1.8t model which consists of 190bhp.  This should have a fair amount of poke in it?

Any input on the above cars would be appreciated

 What about a jaguar x-type?  You can pick a 2.5 v6 for good value

I'd have to go with a 320d they are pretty rapid or the 520d as you don't like the 3 series...

As you see i am trying to coax you on the dark (diesel powered) side

 Get an estate/touring.... they're much cooler

Joe, no way im getting a diesel dude.....wont be doing much mileage anyways, so cant justify it, and also, cant stand the noise

Sampet....not too sure on a estate, would just prefer a saloon...

there isn't too much choice in 330d's in this budget but this one looks quite nice.

I dont want a diesel......and anyways, that 3.0 engine will mean a £400 annual road tax, which i'm not fond of....

 What about a  C220 cdi  Or a  Skoda Octavia VRS (I know its not on your list but that never stopped mr before!)

dude, those choices youve given look a little boring and too big (you dont have kids etc)

why the big saloon?  what bout something quicker and smaller?   type r, scooby, rx8, TT... etc?    honda s2000,   350z

Planning for the near future dude, unfortunately!!! If it was upto me, i'd probably go for another mkIV, with a beefier engine this time.....or even a coupe/something sporty....

Get a C200 and slap the ECU  from a C220 into her

The 2L is really a 2.2 and just ltd by the ECU if what i was told by a dealer is correct

Other than that the 1.8T Audi would be by FIRST option

Andy, not too sure about the c200 now, as i've been told that the post 2004 have the better engines.....i found the c200k to be very noisy, even noisier than the golf

I have been looking at the A4 now......1.8T, but not sure whether to go for 163bhp or 190bhp version...........the obvious one is the latter, but they come in dearer......  People on audi-speed.net, have mixed opinions on both engines, people saying that both engines have enough power.....but each to their own i suppose....

The A4 will be coming in at around 8-8.5k i think...

any input on both of these engines would be spot on

Also, steve, wont the v6 be included in the higher tax bracket of around £400 soon?

 Bmw 325? :) I think you can pick one up for about 8k?..Not sure about tax though

 BMW then ! audi a4 is a little dull unless you get the s4.. etc

 BMW being RWD might be a bit of fun aswell :)
