sorry to be waaaay behind but as a new (but extremely proud) owner of a mk5 golf im looking for some new wheels and is the standard stud pattern 5x112? and then presumably any (within reason) alloy with the stud pattern 5x112 will fit? Trying to get usefull info from guys at alloy wheel shops isnt easy at all! any help would be much appreciated!!

Yes the studs are 5x112 but the offset needs to be correct as well or the wheels will catch on the arches - i've just fitted the 2008 R32 18" Reps which are ET45 and fit perfect, some ebay sellers were saying theirs would fit with an offset of ET35 but i was advised they'd catch

Mine are 45 offset and don't catch?

Is it just the fronts catching? if you look at the plastic arch you can see a screw - remove this and tuck the arch behind - i think it could be where your is catching?

I removed the screw and tucked the arch behind and also tucked it elsewhere (can't remember where) so there's a bit more clearance - no catching :)

They dont rub on full lock just when cornering or hitting fairly large ruts/bumps in road.that was with standard springs and shocks.Put koni fsd,s and eibach pro springs on to stiffen it up a little and they still rub.

If the et is def 45 then they shouldn't rub (well mine don't)?

1st - take wheel off and double check et number on back of spoke as some companys on ebay are selling these in et35, etc

2nd - make sure arch liner is tucked inside wing clips (with screw removed) not on outside as per standard

3rd - rub chalk on edge of tyre and go for a drive - when you get back you should then see a chalk mark exactly where it's catching on liner/ arch

if u look at vthe link on the top of the page the r32 wheels are 18" by 7.5 and an offset of 51 .Thats a bit of difference to a 45 offset and a 8" wheel f***in copys stick to original stuff from now on.
