Hi guys, got a few problems with some calipers that i bought from the bay, and as i am not that clued up on the braking systems, I know there are some good people with alot of knowledge who can help me on here!

I've bought some 4 pot brembos but......

How do i know if they are monoblocks? How do i know what the max size disc i can use with these calipers is? as i want to put 323mm discs in them! on the front of the caliper, there is a steel clip that is bolted on with what looks like a dowl in the middle and on one of the calipers the clip is little bit mis-shaped, not massively but it is noticeable, is this a problem? if any one can help answer these 3 questions i would very much appreciate it!!!!!

Also with regards to above, does anyone know if i can fit different make of brake discs to brembo calipers or do the discs have to be brembo as well as alot of people are tellin me that only brembo discs fit brembo calipers... Surely there are after market discs that fit that are cheaper!!!Angry

     Hi Mate,

Just to confirm the part numbers if its 996.351.431 then what you have is a nice lovely pair of 996 Turbo fronts......

If the number could be construed as 986.351.421 then they are old boxster 2.5 fronts which may or may not fit over some 312mm discs depending on the model year.

If turbo calipers then the 323mm discs are too narrow and you need some R32 discs and some carriers which will require you to have 18" wheels and a 10mm spacer although you may be able to get away with 5mm spacers depending on which wheel you are using.

Zimmerman I believe do a Golf 4 R32 discs which is slightly cheaper.

If they are Red then good news if they are black then bummer........

You can fit upto 350mm discs on those calipers,  which if you incorporate some offset into the bell they could be used without spacers. As those calipers were alo lagging insteading of leading you'll need to turn them around by replacing the connecting tube with the bleed nipples and vice versa, cant remember if this is straightforward on 996TT fronts I'll have alook at my set and let you know.

Be interested in knowing what you paid for them.........

    Hi mate,

Thanks for your help!!! I paid £255 plus £15 delivery, thinking this may not have been such a good deal now though, With this i got: 2 Calipers, Set of brake pads, All the pins etc, Adapters to fit to a TT (Which i assume should also allow them to fit to my golf) , Set of Brake Lines. I didnt get any bells or discs Crying

The Calipers are Red which is a good thing, but i dont know if i am going to have to do any modifications to make them fit! I have been told by someone that it is going to be quite expensive to buy the bells and discs, but that advice was given to me by someone who desperately wanted to buy them for £300 from me.... And he nearly convinced me, but i thought id get some other opinions first!

If they are 996TT fronts with adaptors for TT and lines then its a great deal - well done. I would be almost certain that the adaptors will be to fit the R32 disc as the R32 disc is already fitted to the 3.2 V6 TT that these brakes probably came off, if you send me a picture of the adaptors I should be able to tell you.

Work on upto 10mm spacers and 18" wheels being required,

If they are the 996 ones as I suspected then I am pretty sure the R32 discs will fit them I would also be tempted to check the Cupra R discs 323mm x 32mm...  Post aa pic up of them..  As for the price personally it was a bargain and that blokes taking you for a mug as you have all teh expensive bits ready to slap on as just the adapters are £160 from MBT..

    1002IMG_1004IMG_1003

Hi mate, here are some pictures of the calipers, i will post some pics of the adapters tomorrow when i get them back from being painted. I am hoping that i can put Cupra R 323mm discs in them (Although someone else told me that i could only fit 320mm discs in them but they were only guessin) I am also hoping that i dont have to buy any seperate bells or any expensive 2 piece discs!!!!

Let me know what you think!

323's at 28mm are way to thin for those calipers, zimmerman are doing 32mm wide G4 R32 replacemetns for around £190.

Also 323's only have a swept pad depth of 54mm 996TT pads are 62mm deep, means the pad will be hanging off the disc = MOT failure (Unless you machine the pads down).

They look like they have been turned around already which is good news

The R32 discs are 334 x 32 and because of the alloy bell are only slightly heavier than the 323 disc but have a greater mechanical advantage and a bigger pad area.

Yeah but will those bigger zimmerman discs fit straight onto my golf? i know you say they are replacement r32 discs but does it matter that they are 4-wheel drives? And also where can i get these from as i cant find them anywhere????

Straight on trust me, in fact I'd bet that your carriers will only fit this disc.

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-MK4-GOLF-R32-FRONT-FLOATING-BRAKE-DISCS_W0QQitemZ320277481491QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item320277481491&_trksid=p3286.m14.l1318

This guy is selling them on ebay but at a price, speak to GSF car parts, the discs are not in the catalogue but they probably have some in stock or can get some.

Stew on here had this setup 996TT/R32 Discs and he bought some DS2500 pads and did the nurburgring with a solid pedal all the way around with no fade.

If you get these brakes bled properly, even with a bit of extra pedal travel  be prepared to be amazed  - very amazed!!

This something im looking at too. my only concern is having to use wheel spacers. Could you do some measurements of the calipers please. could you please measure the width, the distance from the centre of the mounting holes to the outside edge, the gap where the pads and disc would be and from the inside face of the gap(hole side) to the outside edge (wheel side) if that all makes sense. Cheer

Does anyone know if the offset on a R32 334 disc is the same as a 312 disc?

    Cheers

    James
