    hi

my haynes manual is pretty vague, tells me the intercooler is in the wheel arch, had a look and i'm pretty sure its in the bumper??

also when i've looked from the drivers side under the bumper there is a fairly short boost hose, it appears to be still attached but is covered in black crud, is this normal? or could be from a leaking hose??

    thanks for your time

    Chris

The 150 has frt mounted intercooler, take off the big engine shield thats only real way of getting to anything there is a boost pipe either side of intercooler both prone to coming apart, the just check all connections of other pipes,if not could be a split pipe which is hard to check on your own really cos there is not much pressure in pipes on tick over,is it smoking bad etc ?

it's a front mount that sits behind the radiator. you've most likely blown the inlet/outlet.. so have a look up from underneath and you'll find them.. If you look in the offside wheelarch you'll see the alu pancake pipe running across, just follow the tubes around the car and see what's what?

You can buy new 'O' rings (make sure they're the newer greeen ones and clips, you don't always need a new hose. Cable ties will help you in the mean time.

    nice one cheers guys.

it is smoking a bit but have been taking it easy as didn't know what it was at first.

the engine note is louder and when its rev'd and the revs drop off there is a pop from somewhere behind the block.

going to get it on some drive on front ramps now and see what i can see.

well i'm going to need a new pipe from vw.

this is what i was met with when i removed the lower engine cover

this is showing the shiit designed lugs that are no longer there on both sides

and this is my temporary repair, not the prettiest, the tiewraps are 0.5" thick and frikin strong, so should keep her going for a few days at least.

anyone any idea how much the pipes are from vw??

    cheers

    Chris

cheers buddy, does it come as a set with seals and clips etc or are they more again on top?

not sure whether to invest in an uprated set tbh if this could happen again.

they should of just stuck to jubilee clips on the pipes rather than over engineering those clips and lugs that don't stand up to the rigours of time.

    cheers

    Chris

Hello all, first post so go easy on me please Smile.

I have just been looking at a TDI 150 that i'm thinking of buying and I noticed that there was some oil on the boost pipe going to the intercooler on the passenger side of the car (at each end of the pipe, on the joins).  I had wondered if this meant immenent turbo failure.  I noticed that there is some oil in this pipe in the pictures above though, so is this normal?

P.S. Love the above bodge Yes

Mine leak and i have changed them all the green seal type with new clips they are just a shoot design. The oil in the boost pipes is normal its due to the way the breather is setup
