Ok so the other day i come up witht he idea to put my ipod in my arm rest well not come up with it but decided to do it Geeked

I ran the cables to the arm rest and decided i dont like my ipod bouncing around, not cheap these over priced poor peforming mp3 player lol Surprise

So i got my noodle thinking and created V1.1 of my creation, sadly it was that bad i didnt take any pics of it

Aha a little down heartend i decded to create V1.2 as you can see in the pics below, its very flimsy, not a good cut and there are staples every where Embarrassed

    NOT good Sad

So today i got creative and came up with what i now call V2.1

As you can see i got the good old rauter out Devil never new my dad had one to abuse use i mean Angel

you can see from the pics its a lot better looking, not sure on weather i liek the connecor being out on show but i needed to be able to disconect the device to swap for other things, i need to recover with some better material as a old t-shirt dosent realy cut it.

I am happy with V2.1 for now but V3.0 ultimate is on its way, i play to sink the ipod a little more, personal preferance that, i want to run power to the ipod, hide all cables ( not too sure on this yet as swaping devices may be awkward) and iw an tto run a remote from the ipod to around my sterio so i can switch tracks without opening the arm rest, ultimatly i would like to enable video play back on my screen some how need to look in to this.... Time

id like to fit the remote in one of the ares shown in red unless any one can come up with some better ideas....

I would make the cut out a little deeper to start with so the top of the connector's are at the same height as the top of the wood. Put a stop behind the rear of the connector's to stop them going any further back. On the area above the screen cut out a little notch so you can get your finger in to flip the ipod out. Then make a cover out of thin plastic or wood so it covers the connectors and just shows the ipod and the notch to get it out. At least then it would look covered and does not have to look tidy under the cover.

I want to do this but I don't know if it's possible with the 6 CD unit. I just want to add the ipod and leave it as standard as possible. Hmm... Confused

O/T but I saw Blink 182 three times in 2004. Twice in Birmingham and once in Nottingham. Good times.

Can you not get an iPod connector that enables full control from your headunit?

I have the VW ipod unit connected up to my head unit granted its in a MK5 but sure there is one for MK4. I dint have the armrest ina t the time so mine sits in the glove box Im not sure it will work with a changer tho as the cd changer channels become your play lists so instead of 6 cds you have 6 playlists to select or you can play all the content of the ipod and jsut have it on mix. Works a Treat tho

why not get the VW Ipod lead then and plonk in the glovebox.

it'll charge it and you'll control it all from the headunit.

or even get a different headunit and have a better screen to control it all, Becker and Alpine are good!

i have the becker one and don't even look at my ipod, only take it out when i want to change the songs on it.

RAG - My friend has recently bought a MK5 and she has hers in the armrest. I didn't take a very long look at it as she was asking me questions about everything!

Jammy B - Will the lead be visable?

the lead plugs into the back of the headunit and you wire it into the glovebox.

you don't see a hint of IPOD or lead so only you will know its there.

plus it frees up your armrest from wood and staples.

that ripspeed screen yours? does it have an ipod connection or just an AUX in? you'd be better off getting a different headunit if you want to control the ipod from your headunit.

the way it is at the mo means you still have to take your ipod indoors to charge it yeah? when you connect it properly to a headunit it will charge it and you control it on the headunit displaying all the artist/track details too.

plus you won't be forever holding it and changing tracks, so less likely to get pulled over by pc plod and getting a fine for them thinking your holding your phone whilst driving.

get rid of all that and get a dedicated headunit and/or screen! you shouldn't need to hold a remote to do it all!

    i wouldn't have double din in a mk4 let alone a carputer!

sell the ripspeed on ebay and get a decent headunit.

trust me. its better than a remote any day!
