no to ebay mate poor build poor sizes you will have to get tons of pipes to get it anywhere near right...

I nearly nearly bought one off the bay but ended up stretching majourly far and going forge

Well after fitting 2 of the FORGE kits now i can really say it is the best by far and you REALLY get what you pay for

dead easy to fit with NO modifications to any pipes in ANY way Big Smile

well worth the extra money that is why i will also have a forge kit when my V6 turbo is done

The forge kit does look good and good quality but theres no way you can justify the just shy of a thousand pound price tag just cost it fits good.

They front mount kits you can get for the big Jap cars aint even close to that price either.

so its around £600 extra for a forge one just cos it fits nice n snug! not worth it in my eyes.

Perhaps opt for a better SMIC to keep things more OEM?

Tyrolsport SMIC? Read the test sections in here for an interesting read - http://www.tyrolsport.com/index.php?p=product&id=49&parent=67

    http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/t/205645.aspx or http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/p/145035/963794.aspx#963794

If your not looking to opt for a bigger turbo for higher bhp's it might be worth staying clear of the FMIC as it can lead to more lag. If your pushing say 260+ then id opt for one (the exact fig is a guess in honesty as i havent tested the difference for gains. My golf is 210 and didnt think it would be worth it...so im opting for a Tyrolsport at somepoint).

I understood that the cores for the ebay FMICs are poorly designed. They appear the same on the outside but have different internal designs to more expensive ones. You always get what you pay for im affraid.

I think Ahsmond has a problem with the silicone pipes provided with the ebay iteam as it couldnt cope with the boost of his K04 and burst open. http://www.edition38.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=168478

forge on cost me 620 so that means the ebay ones are 20 quid

fair play if there that price

    1st of all THANKS EVERYONE!

Basscrazy were did you get a Forge FMIC for £600??

DubLovin cheers i will take a look.

Limwalk will have a look at the thread! But after some previous investigating i was under the conclusion they are not worth it(will still look)

as you can all appreciate there is not a definative answer and everyone has had different experiences makes the decision hard.

Cant accept £700-800 for a Forge or Jabba intercooler exspecially when others running £200 ones without any problems. Dont mind hacking away at stuff(itsfun:D)

    Still well confused.

    eBay FMIC
     - Generic core which doesn't fit properly
     - Ussually the pipe route is not a good on, i.e. over the top of the engine becuase they are a straight through design.
     - Doesn't fit behind standard bumper
     - Modification required to crash bar (unless you get a small core which fits beneath)
     - Lots of cutting required - even to an R32 bumper (which you need at a bare minimum really)

    Forge FMIC
     - Full kit, including full replacement crash bar!!, vents, bolts, caps, core, pipes EVERYTHING!!
     - Custom, perfectly fitting core for the MK4 behind the stock bumper(s) and is good for 500hp
     - Custom high quality silicon hoses with all the bends in the right places
     - No random silicon joints and a medely of metal pipes!
     - Looks OEM under the bonnet

There is a price difference for a reason. I do think the forge is still a little expensive. I got mine for just over £700 IIRC from JBS Autodesigns! However, they are made to order - so I had to wait 4 weeks.

BUT - if you compare both - you can CLEARLY see where the money has gone! I spent nearly a month investigating both options and I'm 100% pleased with my decision to go Forge!!!

They are a good peice of kit i will admit prob the best out there but as in my previous post a £925.31 price tag inc VAT, still is not worth it!

It would prob work out cheaper to buy a forge universal core and getting the pipework made up.

Have you considered a SMIC? I have heard that the cheaper FMIC can cause problems such as engine getting hot and fans running constantly as not enough air can get to the radiator.

Unless your going for a big turbo I would have thought a decent Side mount would be ok?
