     right,

my car insurance expires on the 25/8/08... i haven't been sent a renewal letter yet but im gonna ring quinn direct and find out whats happening.

anyway.. as i said my insurance expires on 25/8/08 and i am on holiday until a couple of days before so i need to sort this before i go away on the 8th really.

    here's my question..

how do i do this? im gonna be 25 on november 28th so im assuming my insurance cost will go down quite a bit then but with my current insurance running out on the 25/8 should i just do quotes now for the year ahead and then take the cut next year or can i get temp/emergency insurance until im 25 and renew for a year from then?? Tongue Tied oh and i will have 2yrs no claims after this year....

    any advice would be welcomed!

For the sake of savings, i'd have no insurance and not drive for a few days, continue your policy til the end, get your ncb certificate and shop around again for new quotes....

Your driver status changes the moment you turn 25.

You get a whole load of driving talent overnight, it's amazing!

that would mean not driving from the 25/8 until the 28/11 thats three months! lol

if it was a few days i wouldn't mind.

Yeah its a tricky situation, Im gonna be finding myself with about a 3 month difference between insurance renewal and my 25th birthday...

I think, tbh mate that theres nothing you can do about it unless you are prepared to not drive around, OR, drive without insurance (bad idea)...

Why has your premium gone up so much? have you had a bump????

nope... i asked and he just said everyone's premiums had gone up... i was thinking mabie a few quid but not 200 english beer tokens!

i have had no claims or faults on policy in the last year so no idea why its gone up!

shop around then mate its the only way.

even if you get a better quote then go back to your current insurers and get them to match it...

Im 26, but only got my UK license last november. I have had a US license since I was 16 with no accidents of my fault. But the UK insurance companies do not care about that whatsoever!!!! Does 10 yrs driving experience not count for anything>?>>>???????? Anyways, my insurance still seems ridiculous at almost 800 pounds for a groupd 10 car  in a good postcode?????? I believe it will start going down fairly dramatically with every year I have NCB and "UK " driving Experience though? I cant believe how much insurance is based on Postcode here in the UK, A Manchester Postcode will be double or sometimes more than say a Cotswolds addfress, or something similiar??????

I am in the middle of a minor dispute with Quinn at the moment. We will see how that turns out.

Try getting quotes from http://www.adrianflux.co.uk/ and http://www.greenlightinsurance.com/ They will both give discount if you say you are a member on here and will also both cover any modifications without ridiculous price increases. Also worth a try is http://www.directchoice.co.uk/ and http://www.quotelinedirect.co.uk/

I went with Adrian Flux this year as Greenlight wouldnt drop about £30 to match them. It does pay to shop around though. I paid £350 fully comp with all mods declared (30yrs old with 10yrs no claims) and the most horrific quote I got was a touch over £1200!!

Go to one of those price comparison websites (confused.com ?) and deliberately make a mistake with your birthdate for your upcoming insurance. That'll give you the best idea what you can expect to pay when you're 25.

Two weeks before my 25th birthday... I was quoted £2700 for an R32.

I bought the car two days after I turned 25, and paid £900.

that's extreme, as it's a 32... but for me the difference was immense

I had a similar issue - insurance renewal end of june, birthday in beginning of august. Unfortunately, I needed the car for those six weeks, so I just took the hit.

When I first got my car 115 tdi, i bought it February and accidently bought a 9 month  policy , quick NCB build up for young drivers but I crashed  so kind of  didn't matter!

But anyways, I have my birthday in June and renew in November, can't wait until this November now I'm 21 and have 1 years NCB! it opens up a whole new can of worm of insurance companies.

So what I'm trying to say it maybe buy a short term policy to fit around your birthday?

Get one and cancel it on your birthday?

When I sold my 1.4 I canceeled the last 6 months of my policy because the insurance company wouldnt insure me on my 1.9GTTDi.
I went else were and found insurance cheaper than what i was paying on my 1.4. WORK THAT OUT? lol
