Arg my clutch just died .... well i assume its the clutch, feels heavy n it wont go into gear ... just had it towed to the vw dealer in Doncaster, id only got done clayying n waxxing her up 2 days ago! i may cry :(

Was supposed to be driving her 300 miles tomorrow to go on holiday to the lake district with the missus, gonna have to take her focus now ... on the plus side at least it didnt go halfway there i guess. Aslo means i wont be able to pick her up till nxt monary arg :( of all the times in the world ...

Will clutch work be covered on my warrenty (i have one of those car people vw warrenties as the car was already 3y old when i bought it)?

So long as they dont try and pull the "your clutch is badly worn and is not covered as its wear and tear" card you should be covered. Is it at Hayseldens?

i can´t see that the actual clutch friction plate will be covered to be honest as it is like a set of brake pads or wiper blades so should not be covered Confused

sorry for the late update, been away in the lakes ..

Yes it was Hayseldens, and i cant fault the service .. they've done a great job and cars back on the road and ive noticed the gearing is alot smoother ... they also chased up my warrenty people (as said it was a third party warrenty) - unfortunatly they stung me with wear and tear, despite me only actually owning the car for 5k of the 25k on the clock, so i had to pay up :| - replacement clutch, flywheel, bearings .. originally they quoted me ~£750, charged me £630 :|

Expensive month for me (tax is due too), but at least its fixed, and as i said the gearing smoothness is noticable ..

I guess the previous owner must have driven around with their foot on the bloody clutch or something :|

Why did they replace the D.M.F at 25k. Did you notice any clutch slip before it went? If it's been slipping for a while then maybe it did damage it but sounds like they've done a bit of extra work for no reason.

When my turbo went they wanted £2500 for a new turbo, intercooler and exhaust because it "might" have oil in it. Have they not heard of cleaning.... lol

had a little slip *just* (as in the same journey) before it went .. hardly awhile though ..

i did ask them if they were sure it needed doing .. but they were adament .. unfortunatly i wasnt really at liberty to go down and look as the clutch went the day before i went away to the lakes and had to leave them doing the work as i needed the car as soon as i was back .. i guess sometimes u gotta pay for convience lol ..

Paying for extra work done for no reason? isnt that the dealership motto? :|

You've hit the nail on the head there, you have to pay for convienience... but it's wrong. It's makes me laugh how they just expect you to come up with that kind of money and accept it.

If I could give one bit of advice for the future it would be come on this board and post a thread with your problems before you take it to the stealers, then at least you'll have some come back when they say you need to replace the entire engine because your exhaust is blowing....

yes, agree its annoying .. but given the circumstance (day before i go away, need the car as soon as im back), wasnt given the luxury of asking for advice or shopping around to get it done cheaper elsewhere.

If anything happens again though (touchwood nothing serious), hopefully circumstance will be different and il be able to ask you chaps for some of your fine advice up front.

The flywheel was probably replaced because it was outside the tolerances, and these are known for vibrating espescially on the 1.9 mk5! Sadly no one can actually prove the tolerances on these so they just go by previous history.

And would you really want to be taking it back in say 10k because your engine is now juddering because the flywheel is knackered!? Paying twice for the same job!!! I wouldnt think so.

Like you say, its more paying for convenience than anything!
