Rubbish weather affects my sky too, if it rains really hard or theres a storm the signal is bad or non-existent. The dish is at the bottom of the balcony out of view tho as we aint supposed to have it fixed on ouside of building at all, so that prob dont help either!

The electric storms that went over the other day caused chaos around SE london, particularly if you were somewhere that got hit by a brownout, which took the service from a degraded signal to a "sod it i can't be arsed" attitude from the box!

we lost the whole of sky for that evening cos of it but it's all fine now.  the surge protector protected the box thankfully, else that'd have popped - are you all sorted now??

If you have a Sky HD dish, there is an issue with faulty capacitors in the power supplies which cause, amongst other things, reception problems.

If you open the box up (not the easiest thing) you can tell whether you have this problem by looking at the capacitors on the PSU and seeing if they are bulging and leaking electrolyte.

I got a refurbished PSU from satcure.co.uk, but if you're good at soldering and not scared of working on mains voltage PSUs, you can replace the capacitors yourself.

Trying to watch The Wicker Man on ch307 at the moment and Sky's throwing a mental.

I have the HD box so may check the above problem.  I just assumed it may be weather related.

I found it got worse over time, and more and more channels had no signal being received.

In the end, I hired a ladder and spent literally hours at the top of it realigning the dish (not so fun when you don't like heights). No success, so I eventually came accross the following thread on digitalspy

    http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=727185

Lots more info about the problem.

all you guys playing with your dishes and boxes are wasting your time. these are total service outages most likely attributable to arquiva's satellite relay in amersham. Without overcomplicating things the signal usually leaves me ok (at BBC Broadcast, west london) but fails off-air due to storm activity when it's relayed to Sky, vmtv, setanta, etc. not fun, i admit. specially for me given the frantic phone calls, work-arounds, service reports, etc I have to make.
