have you checked mounts?? if engines moved might have a knackered mount somewhere id check the bottom back one first? also have you checked the inner joint where the shaft is bent is still in one piece?

the drive shaft has no play in it he says but he also said that could be due to so much strain on it

Another vote for the engine mount or mounts here. Did the garage check them at all? There are only three, the dog bone at the bottom rear of the engine, and one at either side on top of the engine.

Hmmmm maybe the engine mounts arn't as strong on a 1.4? You now have the S3 engine which will be putting a hell of a lot more strain on them?

If someone could check if all engine mounts are the same throughout the range, but i suspect not.

Have a look to see if an engine mount has shifted .....

in the pics i take it that is the the drivers side shaft?

at worst case it could even be an inner CV joint that had blown and as you said the garage told you there was no play in it Confused

Tell me something was the dog bone mount fitted in that picture?

it really looks like the engine has shifted forwards but i cant see how Confused

Can you get some pictures of the top of the engine for me mate?

    Andy

P.S i am running 1.6 mounts with a V6 so cant see that is the problem

we know that the part numbers are not the same patch btu in real life terms the 1.4 and 1.6 mountings are the same so if i can run a V6 on 1.6 monts then there should not be a problem using them on a 1.8T
