Usually when I move off from a standstill, I feel a slight 'thud' or 'tug' in the car as the clutch bites. However from time to time, I don't get that slight 'thud' or 'tug' when I reach the biting point - the bite kind of feels a little spongy? It's very hard to explain, but it just feels like a 'weaker' bite as if the clutch is worn?

Car is a 1999 1.6 SE DUU gearbox I think. There's no problems with the gearbox, the clutch doesn't slip, the biting point remains at the same height at 3/4, but the bite just feels different.

    Anyone got any ideas?

if the clutch was dying, im sure it would slip, mine doesnt slip at all, its nice and tight when my foots down, but its the soft biting point, takin off from stationary, even crunches when puttin in reverse sometimes thats the problem with mine

Got my car back yesterday eveniing, it is feeling much better now!! i can now feel the biting point and can launch off Automobile

i am not too sure how much the release bearing and sleeve costs, as my release bearing came with the new clutch kit along with the sleeve, PM R44MS K he can get these OEM parts from VW without OEM prices

    Hope you get yours sorted

Cheers mate, I will definitely look into it.

Because at the moment i can feel the biting point, only sometimes i don't. I think ill hold out until i cannot feel the biting point at all. :)

My old 1.4 was like this when I got it at 15k miles, and was still like it at 55k miles when I part-ex'd it. Never had any problems with slipping despite this, just a high and very soft (lack of) bite point, which was a bit disconcerting on steep hill starts.
