Out of currosity and whilst tidying up the boot noticed the spare is a steel  195/55R15 or it could of been 195/65R15 whilst the other wheels are alloys size 205/55R16.

BTW car is Bora 2000 115 pd with I think with standard VW alloys

Can the spare still be used on the car safely? or will I be in for an assult on my wallet?

    Thanks

I have got a 2003 pd150 which has the standard 16" alloys shod in 205/55R16 91W tyres and the spare has exactly the same size tyre but on a steel wheel.

Maybe a previous owner has upgraded the wheels?

As long as the overall diameter of the wheel and tyre is the same then it should be fine as a spare....

Oh, my wheels are 19" but my spare is 16".....

The overall diameter is the same due to the profile of the tyre and therefore should be fine as a spare, but not totally sure on legality of running different widths ect!!

A spacesaver is tiny and they are legal, so shouldnt be a problem?? Confused

You will not be legally able to use that on your Vw, the tyres across an axle must be the same nominal size unless its a specifically designed manufacturers space saver wheel/tyre used as a get you home.

If you choose to use the spare you currently have and are caught with it fitted, you stand the chance of prosecution (points and a fine)

Looks like I'll have to look for a replacement 205/55R16 tyre and rim, I'd  imagine one from VW will set me back a packet would about second hand ones anything to look at for, and would ebay be a good place to look at?

    Thanks

    Hi Mate,

I'm sure any breaker would part with a steel wheel from a VAG car in the correct size. Shouldn't be too expensive and the other bonus is it doesn't really matter if the tyre is worn as it will only be the spare...

    Wigster.
