My dad had one. Bought it from auction, and it cost loads to fix it, but I guess that is more of a problem with auction cars.

But, you have an R32. A capri is bit of an old boy's car who wants to act like he is in his youth again. Didn't Del boy have one. Chuckle

I had three 2.8 injection's - really good cars. The last two had LSD's so a bit more forgiving in the bends and the wet. The last one was fitted retro with an Allard turbo now that was an exciting carSurprise

My uncle had one, used to drive around with sand bags in the boot most of the time. He ended up spining on a back road on the way up to loch lomond, he rolled it through a hedge and into a burn lol.

Oooh , those were the days

I had a Stattos Silver one the 2.0S with the shimmering S

    Wowww

It was modded to the hills though , the gearbox was a side linkage and was replaced a couple of times a year

But then me and my hubby at the time we just rebuilt the old gearbox and then put it on

Spent a mint on that car , but it had the grief to go with it

Oooh what fun , yes back end was erm..... unpredictable , but then you knew how it would react... so even more fun

Inner arches was the thing that went.... so watch out for them......

Oooh may watch Bodie and Doyle tonight now.......

Yes had three of them well nice cars...  Just helped a mate finish restoring a brooklands real nice drive and you can easily clock well over 110 in 3rd...  Previous to that was a twin tubo technics one which something of an animal...  Problem is that for a £1000 it will be difficult to get anything but a rust bucket that will require shed loads of work.   I reckon a 1.9 gti would be better..

The Brooklands, yes that was a nice example, if I remember correctly it was fitted with a 2.9 litre V6 as opposed to the 2.8 V6.!!! Confused

I had a Mk III 1.3L ( the lowliest model possible) back in the very early 90's . The most amusing thing, apart from the shocking lack of power, 57bhp I think, was the space in engine bay with the puny 1.3 engine, you could literally stand in the space in front of the engine.

If you fancy one, go for it. Don't see many on the road now but there must be a few decent ones out there. Rust is probably the biggest killer. Just think..... Essex Ferrari.

Skierandy - It all depends what you want from the car. I assume it isn't R32 beating performance, as this won't happen with a stock Capri.

Personally, I don't think their is any real merit to buying a Capri without a V6 engine, and a £1k budget isn't going to buy anything apart from a basket case. Even the 2 litre is quite thirsty without being quick. Unless they have been very well looked after or expertly restored, there is usually lots of rust to be found, cracked dashboard tops are very common, and other interior parts are nearly impossible to replace.

They are entertaining to drive, however all models (apart from 2.8i with LSD) are scary in the wet.

If I wanted some retro fun, a 205 Gti 1.9 / Mk 2 Golf GTi 16v offer V6 Capri performance with sensible running costs, less rust issues and are a lot cheaper to buy.

Brooklands would be very scace now as they were a target for Escort mkIII scallies who wanted the 15" 6 spokes and black leather interior from them - most were torched in some forestry somewhere minus the said bits. Looked nice in Brooklands Racing Green though. Nothing like rear wheel drive on a wet cornerParty!!!

My mate has just finished restoring a 2.8i one, full stainless system, resprayed in stratos silver.

Sounds amazing, goes well (considering its age) but is extremely thirsty!!!
