Anyone got pics of then standard TDI 150bhp turbo and how the pipes go into it (boost and air)?

Reason being... Ive just had my turbo re-conditioned from Turbo Technics and made into a hybrid unit.

Im sure the outlet is slightly different so need to compare old and new.

any other diagrams of the boost pipes would be great as well..

    thanks
    Dan

     Thanks :) Yes that helped.

As suspected, as ive got a larger compressor housing and different one to the OE spec it doesnt have the flanged ends so the original hose connections wont go in it.

I will have to modify the pipe which goes onto the turbo outlet.

    thanks again

The OE turbo outlet (boost pipe) has a flange where the boost pipe pushes into.

The new turbo doesnt have this flange so the OE pipe wont fit. It needs a sleeve pipe over the top to mate it to the turbo.

Also the inlet to the turbo is now larger so needs a new silicone hose, rather than using the reducer which was on as standard.

Apart from that all is fine.

Sorry no pics as the turbo is with my mechanic now.

Might be able to get some once fitted :)

bobby hope you don't mind me using  your pic mate.

so the new turbo outlet (red in the pic) needs a new pipe, which fits over the turbo side and over the oe pipe?

and the new inlet (yellow in the pic) requires a straight pipe, which is the same size as the larger end of the reducing peice which was there before?

    is that right mate??

    cheers for the help

    Chris

Hi Chris - Where the yellow part is - that needs a straight piece of hose - not a reducer. As the new turbo has a larger diameter inlet.

Red part - my new turbo outlet is totally smooth, no flanges or clip assembly. So that needs a larger piece of hose to slide over the metal outlet, then the old hose with the funny clip mechanism on slides into that with a jubilee clip or equivilent on.

Having said that, the turbo you get might use the standard compressor housing like the one above and then you might not need the mods.

Or it could come back different to mine and the Oe housing. The name hybrid can mean different things to different companies and of course different specs to the compressor housing ./ compressor wheel etc.

so the reducer is basically a straight peice of silicon same size both ends, something like this?

have you sourced the extra bits yourself?? or are the mechanics getting it all??

sorry for all the questions mate, just i need to get the turbo fitted back to the car in a weekend so need to get all teh bits ready.

    cheers again

    Chris

Correct - the latest pic shows a reducer hose but I didnt need a reducer hose as the outlet of the turbo was larger than standard.

Ive got hoses in stock as I run an intercooler firm :) I used a 57mm piece of hose about 4inch long.

please note that just because my hybrid was like that, yours may differ.

After tonight im going away so good luck with your turbo.

Chat next week when im back if needed.

No worries about the pic mate.

The turbo unit that I have fitted to my car has the biggest internals possible to be housed inside the standard housing. Therefore, does this mean your manifold etc has all changed aswell now?

    Sounds interesting :)

Ahh if you have the same housing then your fine and wont need the mods :)

My turbo is the same exhaust side, but a larger compressor side and hence the different housing.

The manifold is the same as is the hot side :)
