After 'settling' on a kenwood DDX-5022, and then a W502 alpine (ha ha) i have decided i now want a JVC avx-810.  I dont like the look of the kenwood, and at £540 the alpine is too expensive for me.  The JVC seems to get good reviews, looks good, and a BIG bonus is that you can remove the face off the unit. It can also be had for £350.

Anybody got one or have any experiences/pictures of the unit installed?

    Thanks in advance.

    Looks like this BTW -

Im going to buy this unit...100% deffinate!

It looks fantastic and can do just about anything that a £700 unit would cost other than it doesnt have sat nav.

All i need to know is wether I would need an adapter for it to fit my double din slot comfortablly.

Ive already asked, but im still unsure!

If you get the unit let me know how it fits etc!

Alpine unit obviously looks good, and has the usual alpine quality etc but i just couldn't justify spending £540 on it (w502).  I dont need nav and the JVC does everything i need. And the removable front panel is a big bonus.

Yeah i know what you're saying, but i dont think it would make me smile any more than the JVC at £200 cheaper.  Plus the fact i would always be scared, leaving the car sitting with a £540 stereo looking at everyone walking past.  At least with the JVC i can remove it's face.  I think i have convinced myself that i should get the JVC lol!

Got the unit fitted. Few pics of it in my car -

As you can see, it doesn't sit as flush to the dash as some other units do, but i think this is to be expected saying as the face comes off, and it's not that big a deal to me anyway. Overall i'm very pleased with it.

Looks real good man, what's the sound quality like? Are you satisfied with the build quality and the usability of the touchscreen menu? Does it lag at all with any function? Btw your dash looks so awesome with the lights on! Surprise

Looks really good quality picture with the films.

I see you have been watching 'Old School'. I love that film, cracks me up everytime.

Did the headunite take you long to fit mate?

Thanks for the comments mate. Sound quality is very good, especially when watchin DVDs. Such a difference from the RCD300! Build quality seems pretty solid too, and the touchscreen is very user friendly.   The ipod control lags slightly when searching through albums etc, but once you have selected an album, it skips between tracks without any hesitation.

Pic quality and sound quality is excellent on DVDs.  Yeah 'old school' is funny as!

Took me just under 1 hour to fit it i'd say. Thats from i started to screw dash apart, until i had it all back together again.

     Hi Ricky,

Was thinking of one of these too - did you buy locally or of the web??  I see a facia adapter is needed, what about wiring - I'd imagine it needs the quadlock adapter??

If you don't mind me asking, how much did it cost you fitted?

    Cheers,

    Colm

The fascia adapter comes with the unit. It should slot straight in, and I bet you it could be done in under 15 minutes if your fast with a screwdriver lol

Hi guys.  I bought my HU through amazon.co.uk from Car audio & security for £360.

For the mk5 golf you do need a fascia adapter.  I got mine off ebay for £12.

You can use a normal quadlock - iso adapter (around a tenner) but you have to tap into sidelight switch to get a switched live.  Because i didn't want to do this, i bought a connects2 CTSVW002  CAN-BUS adapter, again off ebay.  It provides switched live, dimming of headunit with lights, reverse gear signal for camera, and steering wheel control (with additional lead). Got this for £29 off ebay.

I also needed an aerial adapter - originally i got an autoleads PC5-136 for £7 off ebay but this gave me crap reception, so i changed it for a twin fakra - iso aerial adapter (AAN2124 made by Celsusice) which cost me the massive sum of 99p from ... yes you've guessed it - ebay!

I fitted the unit myself so all in cost me around £430 including delivery of everthing.

If you have any technical ability at all, i would recommend fitting the unit yourself - its quite easy actually.

Thanks for all the info Ricky.  Seems a reasonable enough price considering all the extras.

    Good luck,
