I'll bump this rather than start a new thread. Both my seats only heat on 5, don't seem to do anything on the lower settings. Because they both heat where they should I'm guessing the elements are all okay, but because both only work on 5 i can't swap the switched to test them. It's got to be the switches at fault, right!?

Where's the best place to get some new ones? How much from VW?

Anyone know how much these are? I've asked a mate who might have heated seats in his Golf if he minds me borrowing his switch to try, but I'm pretty certain it's got to be the switch. There are a couple listed on eBay but I'm worried it would be a false economy to buy used ones...

This is a known fault with VW leather heated seats, they used a different heater switch to the cloth version and the official fix according to Elsawin was to replace both switches with the ones from the cloth interior. This was a warranty fix if it was reported when the car was new.

Looking on ETKA there is only one PN now so the switches must have been superceeded.

My drivers seat has a broken element on the seat squab. Anyone know a part number for this and have a price? Need to get it sorted before winter takes its full effect!

That's odd, i just thought i couldn't feel the heat! LOL!

The drivers one on mine does something similar! So i've only ever used 4 and 5.

A costly repair which i think i will pass on for now, just for the sake of a warm bum/lumbar...

Hmm, for almost £50 I think I'll leave them as they are untill I'm feeling a bit more flush! The wife happily has the seat on 5 all day long anyway, and it's not a great hardship for me to flick my seat on and off as necessary.

    Thanks for the help guys.

My drivers heated seat also playing up, to make it work I have to turn it on and off a few times. When it does work only settings 4 & 5 do anything. The seat heats up, then cools down and does not reheat with out being switched off and back on. I have replaced the control switch (new switch part no V1J0 963 564 B0), it still does not work. Looking at the wiring diagrams the only thing I can think of is the thermostat which is built into the seat is not working properly.

Does anyone know where in the seat the thermostat is and if it can be replaced.

I've just got back from the garage where I bought my car as they said they might be able to sort my switches undes warranty. They checked the car on VAGCOM to se if they could find the fault (I told them they wouldn't!) and then they tried some switches from another MK4 with heated leather and said to see how they go. Anyway, I have concluded on my drive home that these switches also only work on 5!!

Does anyone know the pin outs on the back of the switches so I can check them with a meter to confirm they are faulty? Surely if the seats are heating where they supposed to, just not on all of the settings, it's got to be the switches at fault?

I'm going to call the garage tomorrow and let them know, but I think they are reluctant to order the new switches without proving it's definately the switches at fault.

And theres me thinking I was going mad and not feeling the heat enough on settings 1 to 4!  Will watch this thread to follow your outcome, I'm not paying £50 for switches that may not solve the problem!

Neil, don't suppose you know why there was different switches for cloth and leather seats?  Seems a bit strange that.

You need the switches out of a car with cloth interior according to Elsawin Yes that's why the ones from a leather interior didn't make any difference

@V6Rich - no idea really, they used the same switch later in production.

Any ideas on the pin out for the switch? I'll have poke about with my meter tomorrow and see if I can suss it.

i just wish people in the trade could use forums like this to help diagnose problems, a lot of the time I don't think they take what your saying seriously when you say you found out the solution to a falut on the internet! And I always find it hilarious when you explain that it turns out to be quite a common fault and they claim they've never heard of it happening when they're supposed to be specialists in certain marques!
