So, if you've been waiting, wait no longer!

    Here it is!

I won't be tempted yet. Maybe by the 60D next year or 2010........ Better glass is my future for now.

     Just read this on dpreview..

"On the surface it looks almost similar to its predecessor"

"Almost similar"?? What does that mean?

    Is that like "Almost exactly"??

Perhaps they were in a rush to beat stevesdigicams onto the net.

    Bless them.

Quite a large step in the megapixel count from 10.1 to 15 (possibly the biggest ever between sucessive models?), apart from that and a screen that is apparantly sharper then my laptops screen then a bit underwhelming, when the 50D goes on sale think I'll buy a 40D when the sell off the last ones vastly discounted.

I like it. I'm planning on upgrading my 20D next year. VGA resolution preview screen will be excellent, as will the larger buffer and UDMA CF support.

Quite pricey tho isnt it @ 1200 for just the body, when i paid about 700 for my 40D with lens/4gb card!

The couple of features that would be handy are the contrast focus with live view, and the ability to adjust lens... other than that im more than happy with the 40D!! Gonna buy a 70-200 2.8 me thinks!!

Note to self -- Abrasive pads and paintwork dont mix!!

The price is about the same as the 20D, 30D and 40D were at launch. So that'll be between £650 and £800 in a matter of weeks.

    BUUUUUUUUY THEEEEEEEEEE 70TOOOOOOOOO 200!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

According to the press releases, the 40d was £899 RRP (http://www.canon.co.uk/About_Us/News/Consumer_Releases/2007/EOS_40D.asp) while the 50d £1200.

However Canon is doing something a bit unusual and introducing the 50d when the 40d has only been on sale for 12 months (rather than the usual 18 month cycle for N0d cameras), and keeping the 40d on sale for a bit.

I'm fairly certain however that within six months the 40d will be discontinued and the 50d will have dropped down to 40d prices. At the moment the 50d is nearly the same price as the 5d, which hasn't been refreshed for years.

That's why I'm planning on replacing my 20d next year - I won't use the camera much over the winter, and want it for the start of the new air show season.
