For a long time now, I've had this annoying rattle that I can hear when I'm driving along a bumpy road.  I'm talking bad road surface, not speed bumps.

I can only head the rattle when I open the windows, and I always thought it was the plastic trim inside passenger side door mirror, as that's hat it sounded like.  However, only the other week I took the mirrors off and replaced them with a nice set of stubby mirrors - no broken bits!

Annoyingly I still have the rattle! Sad  I can't for the life of me work out what it is.  It's absolutely fine when on most roads, speed humps are fine too.  It just seems to be small little bumps and bad road surface that affect it.

Any ideas on what this could be would be appreciated as I'm pulling my hair out lol!

FYI, bushes were changed only a few months ago... ARB's & lowering springs are not even a year old.  Exhaust seems sound too.  Confused

    Phil

Had a similar sound on mine that to me sounded like a metally rattly noise. After a few months of looking I found the problem. The exhuast mounting point in the centre of the car had broke its weld to the exhaust pipe and the pipe was rattling against the bracket over bumps.

May be worth looking at all the mounts on your exhaust but could be a long shot.

Another one that maybe worth checking is in the spare wheel well. The mrs focus had a funny noise when we got it and that turned out to be that the previous owner had not screwed the bit in that holds the spare wheel down. Could also be something random in the spare wheel well rattling around.

Mine makes a thumping sound over road "imperfections", but not speed bumps

I think mine is the exhaust rear box

As described elsewhere, it has a home-made rear mounting

As mentioned in an earlier reply it could be the centre exhuast mount that has broken away from the box

Or it could be the Honeycomb Cat that has droped inside its box

We need to get a weekend sorted pretty sharp by the sounds of thingsWink

Replying to the first, does it sound like its in the door? and does it do it when window is only partly open? cos thats when mine does it & if i drop it down fully its ok apart from stiff neck with wind,if so i think its something on regulator/door regulator plate(a cable etc etc etc)

I have this rattle aswell! It's mostly at slower speeds (<30mph) and it's also really annoying me!
