I've replaced the head unit with a Sony 52w MP3 jobby which has improved the quality of sound a bit over the old Gamma, but I'm missing the steering wheel controls and the full dash display...

So I want to offset the negativity by making it sound a lot better than it did before. Will installing some none amp'd components and runnign them off the head unit, make a significant difference over the stock speakers? I really can't be bothered with the hassle of wiring in an amp and cabling to the speakers...

I'm surprised that binning the 1980s memorabilia Stick out tongue hasn't improved the sound a lot moreConfused?
The stock speakers aren't all that bad in the grand scheme of things, but it would be more work to change all four speakers and tweeters than it would to add an external amp to the existing ones, all the wires can br run to the back of the radio and don't need to go directly to the speakers themselves.

Hi Chris Smile Yep, so am I! It's slightly louder but the bass isn't anything like as clear :( I've had a JBL 300w 4 channel amp on some SPS171a's in a previous car and it was a lot of work, but worth it :)

If I have to add an amp, I will, but the question in my mind was, which is going to get me better results, amping the standard speakers, or new speakers with no amp. Guess I know the answer though, I just dont want to hear it ...Might just go the whole hog and amp some components Tongue Tied

If I was to do one or the other I'd do the amping thing, see how that sounds first, and then change the speakers if it really needs it.
