    righto,

just bought a centre armrest from the old classified section and am now wondering how complicated they are to fit.  anyone got any fittin experience out there as the haynes manual cant help me out this time Confused  im hoping its going to be fairly self explanitary.........hoping..........

    added:

OK so it appears i have been ripped off by a forum member!!  i was sold this armrest garunteed that it had all the bits needed to fit it.  well low and behold, between the horse crap story i had about the post office apparently forgetting to post it and it had been sat his the post office for 5 days, the exact time it takes for money to clear from paypal to bank account, and how he would know that the post office "forgot to post it" is amazing in itself, coupled with the fact that he was only able to give me the tracking number this monday has made this all pretty shoot and i wish i had just kept my £50.  anyway on with the story.  it came, in a box, with nothing else in it.  just the arm rest and a bracket, no fitting kit.  well having ripped apart the golfs console, im pretty sure im missing some fixing parts.  does anyone have a pic of armrest instalation?  there is no "in situ" bolts etc under the console, just two big holes that locate it in place.  It also appears that the third mounting point would sit on one of the securing bolts for the handbrake instead of a proper bolt.  If you look at the bottom right of the below diagram, there appears to be mounting lugs to attach the bracket to. can anyone shed some light on this as im annoyed a forum member taken me for a ride by saying it was all there when it clearly wasnt!!!

You should get the idea how it fits together from this parts diagram and removal guide off of VortexYes

Dont think so, it mounts into the little 'coin holder' just infront of the ashtray.

It's been a while since i installed my armrest so you'll have to forgive me if this isn't entirely correct but if i remember correctly you should have the armrest itself, 2 metal brackets (one that bolts to the console and the smaller one that bolts to the first bracket and holds the armrest to that....part no.s 27 and 30 in the above diagram.) and assorted nuts and bolts.

If you're missing these bits you can buy a repair kit for the armrest from vw that includes all the brackets and bolts that you need (it's what i had to do with mine coz i bought a crappy ebay one on which the brackets were sh!te and the bolts didn't fit in the brackets or onto the console, or the armrest for that matter.....and the armrest itself wasn't much better seeing as it broke as soon as i leant on it) for about $28 (edit: that should be the pounds sign but the button is knackered on my keyboard).

Like i said, it's been a while since i did mine but iirc the 2 holes you describe is correct and the bracket is secured to the console on those points by  u-shaped clips (number 34 on the above diagram) that holds the bolt like a nut does (look at the clips and screws holding your wheel arches to your front bumpers to see what i mean). The third mounting point is on the securing bolt from the handbrake. You have to remove that nut and replace it with an elongated one (part number 33 above) supplied in the repair kit.

I hope this makes sense, i have read it back to myself to make sure but i have the advantage of knowing what i mean. If you've got anymore questions i'll do my best to answer them and if i get the time tomorrow i'll take the console cover off and take a few pics, which would probably explain it better. If it still doesn't make sense though, i'll happily buy it off you if it's an official one Big Smile

    Hope this helps

    Ben

Thanks for the responses guys, Stalefish, that sounds exactly right Azzle those pics look right cheers.  Id be a little peeved if have to pay £28 for 3 bolts and 3 nuts, even if one is an elongated one lol.  i take it, as i have the part numbers, i can order the nuts and bolts individually?

If you've got the brackets but not the nuts and bolts you'll need parts

    2x 31

    1x33

    2x 34

    1x35

from the above diagram. Check the list below the diagram to find out what the part numbers are.

i recently bought one, but it came with two bolts to use to anchor it to the two holes on the right. I finally got the nut and bolts done up, and the bracket holds firm, so was relatively easy to fit, if i can do it then you can.

To get the centre console up, you need to remoce torx screws either side of tunnel, open rear cup holder tray, then using a torch and magnetised T20 torx driver, remove the two screws under the ash tray. With abit of a wiggle the centre console will come free, unhook the fuel cap release switch, gives bit more room. The fit the bracket, push console back down, fit armrest, then side parts to armrest, and re fix everything else in reverse order.

    Good Luck

ignore the above numbers as one is wrong and another has had a part number change.

if you have both brackets then here is what a kind fella sent me:

    N90328502 x 2 @ £0.32 each

    WHT001759 x 1 @ £2.72

    N90301901 x 2 @ £1.23 each

    N01508315 x 1 @ £0.16 each

    Total = £5.98 + vat (£7.03 inc VAT)

just order them up from the stealers, job done. Yes

Hope you guys get it sorted. Neither of these are mine from the classifieds I might add incase people reading are wondering.  Adds to the reason I prefer to sell face to face instead of posting.  Too much hassle.  Mine is still listed.  Good luck guys.

I want to ditch the armrest in mine, so if you want to sell the bit that went in the coinholder bit (that's being replaced by the armrest), I might be interested! - PM me :D
