So here goes..........this is not only my first post on this forum, but is actually my first post on ANY forum, so forgive me if I make a mistake or miss any etiquette!! But the truth is Ive sat here reading the various comments and Ive been blown away with how helpful and positive you all are, so thought I would join in.

To say Im jealous of you guys with youre new Scirocco's is an understatement!! I couldnt help but grin when taking the Scirocco out for a test drive - quite simply I want one!! But I also want a good deal......and now we get to the crux of this post. I know its not very British to talk about money but Im curious to know who managed to get what deals. My local dealer insists they are not suppose to do any deals, but after showing him some web deals I managed to get from £26,850ish down to £26,000. So as the experts can you advise if you think this is a good deal? Did you do better? I know Ive got a lot of extras on it (including the Xenon's which you now cant get?!?!), but please humour me.

Firstly Welcome to the forum BMK....

Secondly there are deals out there. I've ordered my car through Broadspeed. Basically they are a broker, but the service is excellent and the deals worth having.

Unlike some brokers, they take a fixed price for getting you the deal then hand you over to deal directly with the UK VW dealer.

Basically this is what I ordered.

Candy White, DSG, Merlin Cloth, Parking Senors, Panni Roof, Dynaudio, DAB Radio, Mats.

My deal was £22108.00 Excluding Broadspeeds fee.

Even with the fee is still cheaper than a standard DSG car!

Current Car: Scirocco 2.0TSI GT DSG

Past Cars: BMW 320d, Alfa 147 GTA, MKIV Anni 1.8T, Audi A3 TDI Sport, MkIV R32, MKIV Anni TDI, Leon Cupra R, Clio 172, Bravo HGT, Clio RSi, the list goes on...

from what ive heard it will be tough to get much more, even getting mats thrown in was a struggle. Eventually i got mats, smartguard protection and reduce price gap insurance, but not any discount on the car itself. Thats directly through a dealer, i didnt use a broker, will do next time!

Scirocco GT 2.0 TSI, DSG, Rising Blue, Mats, SupaGuard - Sold :(

Welcome to the forum BMK. We are a nice bunch aren't we? Big Smile

Like has been said above, go and have a look on some broker sites for prices, print them out and take them to your dealer. You'd be surprised how much they can deal! Just a point (an obvious one), it's much simpler if you don't have a part ex. I've found that they'll offer you less on a part ex if you've nailed them on the new car cost - "robbing Peter to pay Paul", if you will.

For prices, I can recommend broker4cars.

    Dave.

At the time of odering mine there were no deals to be had on the web. Originally i ordered with my local VW dealer who were part of a big group, as soon as official order books were open i put down a deposit and was top of the list. As i was so keen on ordering the car they were not willing to negotiate on price.

Eight weeks in i still had no build week, either schedueled or confirmed. In turns out that this was most likely due to me including Xenons on the options list.

Due to my frustration i started to look around on the web and to my suprise Broadspeed were offering huge discounts. I did some enquiries and everything seemed to check out ok so i approached my dealer, Broadspeed quotation in hand. I got the expected reaction, "you can't trust them", "it will be an import" etc..... But i had done my homework, UK car, VW dealer supplied, full warranty to which he had no reply. He discussed this not only with his sales manager but also his area sales manager.

The end result was that they were not willing to negotiate on price, they said they would have no problem selling there allocation of Sciroccos and therefore saw no benefit in offering a discount to me. How wrong they were, they now have a number of unsold Sciroccos on there forcourt and on Autotrader the number is heading towards the 50 mark. I cancelled my order and called Broadspeed. Within a couple of hours i was called by the VW dealer who were in partnership with Broadspeed, i exchanged a couple of faxed orders and had my order in VW Dialog that same day.

Obviously i cannot 100% recommend Broadspeed until i recieve my car, but i do have a build date which is an improvement over my local dealer. So far they have kept in regular contact via phone and email, they also facilitated the addition of the smokers pack to my order. I saved the best part of £2000 minus the £299 Broadspeed fee. I just hope now the remaining weeks and eventual delivery go smoothly and that i can fully recommend Broadspeed to anyone that asks.

My advice would be to check on Autotrader to see if anyone has the spec you are looking for in stock, call them up and make them an offer. If you have no joy with this route then give broadspeed a try by all means or the Brokers that other guys have used on the forum. The only downside to using Broadspeed is that you may have to travel a fair distance to collect your new car depending upon where you live. For me though i see this as the perfect opportunity to familiarise yourself with you new car.

    Good luck.

     Hi,

Thanks for the comments and advice. Really appreciate it! Looked at Broadspeed who certainly seem to be offering a good deal (which I gather includes delivery to anywhere in the UK). I guess all I need now is for VW to sort out the Xenon issue (Ive sent an email direct to VW UK so will let you know what they say for those of you interested) and the Interest rates to drop some more!!

If anyone has anymore input please dont be shy and share your comments. Hopefully in the fullness of time I can get an order placed and join the party! Hope those of you with your cars are still grinning, and for those of you waiting for delivery that the wait is not too painful!!

    Cheers!

     Hello everyone

    Newbie here,

I have an order with my local dealer currently and managed to get a discount to the tune of £850 off .......

...... received an email today informing me that VW have issue's with the Xenon's headlamps and have stopped offering them and also cannot give any delivery times for those that have placed orders already....bummer!!!!!!

There were two reasons that i managed to get a discount from the main dealer 1/ i have purchased a number of cars from this dealer over the years and also the current economic climate, recession etc.....

From what i have read i will have to check out Broadspeed and see if i can save some more.

I would be very interested BMK in any news/info on the Xenons.

Does anyone know what the problems are with the xenon's?

    Cheers

Gutted, just spoken to my dealer who has confirmed what you said about the Xenons.

I have been told my week 48 Build could now be pushed well into January because of the Xenons, now i have a dilemma.......

    - Cancel my order, buy something else?

    - Drop the Xenon's, with a view to retrofitting sometime after delivery.

    - Stick with my preferred spec and wait indefinitely while VW sort out there supplier.

Not really asking your advice as i know it is a personal choice, just really gutted it has come to this. I am trying to have a technical discussion with VW regarding the feasibility of retrofitting the Xenon units some time in the future. This should be feasible, it just depends whether they have different main harness variants for the two types of headlight. Going to take the weekend to consider my options.

I'm sorry to hear about the Xenon issue, I know it's gutting when things like this happen.. I had a similar experience myself, but I won't go into that now.

To be honest I have to say that taking into consideration the car you've specced, are the Xenon's REALLY worth cancelling your order?

    1) how often do you use them?

    2) will the lack of Xenons detract from the rest of the car?

    3) On the plus side, extra cash saved and maybe get a free service out of VW?

If it were me, I'd stick with it, but as you say it's a personal decision; I hope you don't lose too much sleep deciding!

When I ordered mine two weeks ago - I was advised that Xenons could give as much as a 4 MONTH wait now due to issues! I wanted them too but with the offers the dealer put to me i decided it wasnt worth the hassle of loosing out just for Xenons...your call though

More and more franchises are struggling to to make their sales targets and it is only to get tougher for them for the foreseeable future. Some of the larger motor groups are reducing their stock and even closing showrooms.

From that perspective, now is a good time to be in the market for buying a car - even a popular model such as the Scirocco.

Continue doing your homework - asking for feedback as you've done on this is a good move; checking the online deals as suggested by the others above is also handy.

Mrs Bora Boy has just purchased a new (non-VAG) car. With plenty of preparation done before sitting down with the dealer, we knew that we were likely to get around 10% off with a bit of effort. When it came to the deal, my only surprise was that the dealer was realistic (desparate?) and started with a pretty good deal. A bit of gentle negotiating got another £500 off: a total of approx. 11% off the list price.

Be clear to dealer that you mean business: you are there to buy if the price is right. Go armed with quotations you can provide evidence of. Be firm and polite. If you cannot get more than £850 off, walk away and straight into another franchise who are prepared to do business.

Let us know how you get on.

Just wondering if you had a part-ex? If say there was a 4 month Xenon delay as suggested elsewhere on this thread, would the dealership honour your current price-to-change?

They seem to be working on the current price less 5% per month for a part-ex predicted delivery date value.

That was one of the reasons that i signed on the dotted line because the dealer will honour the part-ex value whenever my Scirocco arrives (due date Christmas week at the mo!)

Surely that can't be right ?(or am I mis-interptreting that?). Don't know exact figures but say Xenons cost £850 and my trade-in is worth £10,000. A 4 month delay would equate to approx £1850 lost in depreciation! Effectively that'd make the Xenons cost £1850 + £850 = £ £2700 ! And come resale time Xenons will be worth £100 if that.

If it were me, I'd either be cancelling my Xenon order or insist that daytime running lights are switched permanently on - I'd want my moneys worth! Chuckle

Just had an email from VW UK confirming there is a supplier problem, and cant seem to advise a date when this will be resolved. Nothing we didnt already know I guess. Just frustrating more than anything........still at least its something else to haggle over! With the way the economy is going the deals can only get better.

As i said previously, it's the oppertune time to hit VW and request free servicing etc for the inconvenience.

I'm sure they like all other manufacturers cannot afford to lose orders. Threaten cancellation unless you see some compensation!

Might be a sliding scale percentage based on the price of the car.

That's what I was offered but mines a bit of a shed so it's only £65/month loss for me.

They should be able to give you a guarenteed future value for delivery day though.

I have just spoken to my local dealer and VW customer care on this subject.

My original order placed two days after the official launch, which i subsequently cancelled was taken up by another customer who also specified Xenons. His build date has gone back to week 5 of 2009 already. If he gets his car around this time the total wait will have been 7 months! However the guy at the dealer said potentially he wouldn't see his car until the 09 plate is launched indicating little confidence in the build dates that are coming out.

VW customer care have stated that no vehicles with Xenon headlamps are expected until early 09 which means my week 48 build is now not going to materialise.

I tried to ask a technical question as to whether the unit could be retro-fitted, no details of this have been issued to VW UK and therefore they say it is not possible. They were not willing / able to ask a direct question to the factory which is frustrating as i know there will people who can answer this question with a categoric yes or no. I can only assume the harness is different for the Xenon units.

Interestingly, customer care confirmed if the vehicle takes more than 20 weeks from point of order to arrive the dealership will provide a "support car" until the day your new car arrives.

Still undecided on what to do.

Personally I think its madness waiting so long just to have a car with Xenon’s.

What's the big deal with them anyway? I know they give great visibility but aren’t they more trouble then they are worth? they blind other drivers (well other drives think they are blinding them anyway) and you just end up getting flashed all the time.

Save the cash, or use it for some other extras that will be more useful to have!

There is no way I would wait for months on end for that.

I ordered my car in early September, and with the spec I wanted (DSG,Leather, sunroof, sensors, cruise and a few others) I was looking at a delivery date around mid Jan.

However they very soon found me a car I could have being built end of September with all the extras I wanted but with SAT-NAV as well, which I wasn’t going to go for but as I could get the car so much sooner I did,

I waited 7 weeks exactly, and it is so nice having a car that gets so much attention simply due to the fact that there are hardly any about at the moment.

Up until today I have not seen another one on the road!

I say it again; do not wait for months on end just for something like different lights!

But then again, maybe you should wait. The fewer Roc’s on the road the more special they are at the moment… Big Smile

I got my car £250 cheaper than the configurator without even negotiating. I got the premium mats free, got some ipod cables, I got the dealer to add Aluminium Pedals, Premium Door Sills and Cruise Control - at decent prices.

My car order with Xenons was coming in at April 2009, I cancelled that order and got this beauty in 2 weeks, drove off with 12 miles on the clock.

Dealers aren’t going to give huge discounts on a brand new models since they know there is a lot of demand, you may get a decent discount on a cancelled order or ex demo.

However with this "Credit Crunch" dealers are also worried about shifting stock so you may get yourself a bargain, my approach has always been when negotiating "am I getting that for free? NO? - Cancel the order then I will go elsewhere"

If you can't work on a discount on the car, then get him/her to give you a better deal on the finance.

    Hi Guys

Fairly new here, Broadspeed sounds like a good idea, I was going to go for VW solutions as a finance scheme

So if I bought the car through a broker would I be able to get the VW solutions finance scheme?

If you order through Broadspeed you will still collect your car from a VW dealer who can offer you a solutions package. However i wouldn't advise going with solutions as the APR rates are very high usually around 10%. It could work out as much as £50 / month more than other finance packages so over 36. Try broker4cars, they can supply just the vehicle and / or finance. The rate for a Personal Lease Purchase with Broker4cars is around 6.9 %. Make sure you know the difference between all the types of finance packages on offer and compare apples for apples. Carfinance.net is a good site to get some quotes, you can tailor the contract length / deposit on the website to see what effect it has on the monthly premium. I went with Broadspeed for the car and Broker4cars for the finance. Although i had to pay a broker fee for both suppliers i still made considerable savings. Good Luck.

Contract Hire is the way forward for me. I put down a small payment upfront and then pay monthly for 2 years. I will just give the car back and get another one at the end of my contract. I dont even have to pay roadtax as it is included in my deal!

    Try www.citrusvehicles.co.uk

Ok, so it took a while to get there but I finally placed my order on a new Scirocco which is due to be with me start of December. As I asked the original question I think it’s only fair to let you know what I shelled out for it. A grand total £37,000, which is after a satisfying discount of just over £1,200 from my local dealer.

Needless to say I did get a few options and for those interested here is the breakdown:

Scirocco 2.0 TSI GT with DSG, candy white, truffle leather, sunroof, rear parking sensors, soundpack, DAB, winter pack, Bluetooth, mats, cruise control and folding mirrors.

I know what you are thinking – how the hell does that add up to £37,000. Well, I couldn’t pay all that money and park it on the street so I'm having a garage built for it! So perhaps I didn’t get the best deal in the world but I'm chuffed to bits and cant wait to get behind the wheel.

Yes Broadspeed et al were cheaper – but for the extra money its worth buying from a local dealership. Plus, the finance package was damn good so all in all I'm happy.

Thanks for all the responses to the original posting and hope all is well with you.

    All the best.

Nice choice. My mate had one recently as a hire car. Lovely car - I was really impressed. It'll be a long wait until December! At least it'll give you some time to get that garage built. Big Smile

Just yesterday I placed my order with a main dealer. There are some good pices out there on the internet but I prefered to speak face to face with a dealer plus I had a car to p/x.

    I've ordered:

    3 door GT 2.0 TDI 140ps

    Manual gearbox

    Metallic steel grey paint

    Electric sunroof

    Luxury Pack

    RCD 510 Radio

    12" Vancouver alloys

    Storage pack

    Parking camera

    £19437

Strangely, this dealer gave me the cheapest quote for the car AND the best (by £300) trade in price on my old car.

    Only problem - delivery 14 weeks :-(

    AKA Steve.

3 door GT TDI. Sunroof 18" Vancouver Alloys Luxury & storage packs Steel grey metallic paint RCD510 touchscreen Rear view camera. Ordered Aug 14th. Built in week 47 Collected Dec 11th.

Thank goodness you mentioned the garage BMK: I nearly fell off my chair when I read £37K. I thought is was a typo and read the first paragraph another two times.

Good spec by the way and I know you'll enjoy the car when you get it. Very good move with the garage too: I would have one if I had the space - it would at least save having to wash to car after it has been parked on the street unused for a week (my street is a wind tunnel in dust city for some reason!).
