Superchips have recently released a revised map for their the GTi Edition 30 DSG .... I was very happy with their 'old' map but downloaded the new one from their server and installed it in my car via the Bluefin device.  It doesn't increase top end power any more than the previous map but the mid range with the DSG is, well, considerably more than it was Big Smile

I went to them yesterday and had the car run on their rollers - I thought people might like to see the results.  My car is completely standard apart from the Superchips remap and has covered just under 7K of mainly town driving.

The guys at Superchips seem to get a bit of stick on some forums but all I can say based on my own experience is the product and service to me has been superb.  They are very keen to help and genuinely interested in how people find their product.

    SO8:

Hi Mate, just done the same, my car has about 20k on it now and mine was the first DSG ED30 they did. I have to say that this new mapping has vastly improved  over the map that I have had for nearly 2 years. To get anything like it's potential I had to use the sports mode but even then the gear change wasn't very smooth.

The new mapping is megga fantastic and using it for the first time this weekend really did surprise me at how good this map is.

I have always sung the praises of the guys at superchips as they are always really keen to help. The people who say otherwise don't know what they are talking about.

Hope you have as much fun as I'm having with the new map, grip is a bit pants with the ice/snow but keeps it interesting, can't wait for a few warmer dryer days.

    Have fun

I have also used old and new bluefin.  Superchips customer support is excellent.  Their Ed30 DSG map was good anyway, the update is considerably better - good enough to make a friend with an RS4 (2.7) raise his eyebrows!

Hi, I have just got my Bluefin yesterday. I went down to Superchips in Buckingham, had it on their rollers. It's producing 301 BHP. This chip blows, i recommend it to anyone. Superchips customer service is excellent. No complaints. Just a big smile.

when I got my GTI remapped the torque was 442Nm and the car didnt run right, had to reduce the torque down to 400 Nm, car runs alot better now but I would expect the ED30 torque figures to be a lot higher since it has a bigger turbo than the GTI's, still good bhp

Can't make my mind up between Superchips or the APR map.

Cruise and switcheable is nice with APR though

What was the price of SC when you attend their premises for a RR and download??

With superchips they do a limited trial, if your not happy, you get your money back, not sure about APR but I am sure that they will negotiate something similar. Win Win situation as far as I can see and you will end up with the one you prefer!!

    Good luck

Hi mate, 2 options, and certainly worth considering either option. K&N Panel filter is the simplest on to to, this will give you an extra 3-5 bhp by letting the engine 'breath' more easily. Think it's about £35 and simply replaces the existing one. It's easy to install just by removing the engine cover to access the panel, remove existing one and then slot the new one in. The second option is an induction kit, again K&N do one for the Ed30 it should give you about 10-14bhp ish, but I would recommend a garage do it unless you are an engine wizz. It's probably fairly simple to install, but if you are like me, leave it to someone who does it for a living.

    Hope this helps

I've recently bought a Pipercross panel filter for mine - when I get brave I will take the engine cover off and pop it in ...  Not looking forward to getting that cover off though !!

I had a good look at a number of threads and K&N, ITG and Pipercross seem to be the favourite for straight panel replacements.

I went with the Pipercross as it is "dry" as opposed to having oil on it ... which some believe may be a problem.  The K&N seems the most oiled whereas the ITG is less so.  FWIW The people I bought mine off said all were much the same ... as in equally OK.

You have to be brave to get the engine cover off!!! It won't break; it's actually stronger than it looks but you really do have to be forceful with it otherwise it ain't movin.

    Have fun!!

A k&n induction kit will not give 10-14 bhp, that is a huge amount of power for an induction kit, even the cai's are not giving that Confused

Not bad figures from just a mapYes

Here's a graph on the same dyno when I was there earlier this year. At the time I was on Custom-Code Phase 2+ software, which is creamily smooth in delivery. I'm now on Revo stage 2+, which is ultimately more responsive and powerful, but a little more agressive (which isn't for everyone, but I like it!).

How do you find getting the power down with 300bhp plus through the front wheels?

I have sold my Edition 30 now but found 298 bhp through the front wheels fine - so long as it was dry !!!  In the wet forget it.

The Edition 30 copes incredibly well and there is effectively no torque steer but that's in the dry.

The car will spin the power away in the wet and in 1st in the dry it struggles and needs care to deploy all of it.

That said I have just (1 month ago) changed to a BMW Z4M Roadster and a Superchips remapped Edition 30 (like mine was) will certainly at least keep up without problem !   I would imagine Hurdy's Edition 30 above would murder my new car ... once moving, obviously ;)

Remapped they really are very, very quick indeed !

So it doesn't affect the drivablitly of the car? I am thinking about getting aa ed30 but after owning a mk4 r32 im unsure about it not having the 4motion. The power does seem to be very appealing from just a remap, does the dsg handle the power well?

DSG handles the power fine - infact it seems the DSG box is somewhat stronger than some people have given it credit for !

The car will never handle the power as well as 4wd and the fact it is fwd is a drawback .... however, the car is good and the delivery is good so long as you are realistic with your right foot .... I had two Superchips Bluefin maps for my car and actually kept the lower torque one on the car 95% of the time as it made it more driveable.  The higher torque map came in with more of a bang which I didn't like.  I liked the remap that was a bit more of the same (about 15-20bhp) up to 4,000 revs but then went mad to the redline - at a stage in the power band that the car could much more easily deploy it.

I have to say I do miss the Edition 30 even though I now have a Z4M - it was as quick and easier to drive !!

Sounds like it handles the power well for being fwd, i think i will have a test drive of one if theres any in my area. What sort of running costs do they have, service intervals etc? I do like the look of them, the wheels are much better than on the standard gti.

A cat back is not going to help if you want to go stage 2, you need the downpipe and sports cat and a filter of some sort Yes

I have bf stage 2 and its a nice map, a lot smoother than stage 1 and holds the power better at top end Smile

Urban I got about 25-26 standard or Bluefin Stage 1.   On a run I got anything up to 38.5 mpg on a motorway stuck at 55mph.

For a performance car capable of such acceleration 25-26 urban is really good  !!  If I am gentle with my Z4M I get 24mpg.  If I thrash it or use it solely in town it goes down to 15mpg ..... be thankful for 26mpg urban .....:)
