Said goodbye to my APR Stage 3+ MKIV Golf on Saturday....great car and had some good fun in it but time to move on.

One of the reasons I bought the Ed 30 which is a 3 door manual in black (again) with some nice extra's is because of it's tuning potential that appears to be simple. I've promised myself (and the missus) to leave it pretty stock except just a couple tweaks.

Considering yet again APR mapping with cruise control for fexibilty and discresion. I'm wanting to keep stock exhaust but may consider white line anti lift kit and perhaps some performance pads in the future.

Stock suspension seems amazing for out the box car....only reason I'd change that is for asthetic reasons.

What are they like with just a map?

Does the exhaust/dp make that much difference. I know that their is a stage 2 with fuel pump but for me this time with the missus using it I want to keep it pretty stock for resale reasons too.

    Any info will be grateful

Hi mate, I have a Superchips ED30 DSG used a bluefin to do it. Fab map with stock exhaust have a KN filter up to 315 at moment. Easy to install with the bluefin and you can put it back to Standard when you like. I do this occasionally to remind me just how awsome the map is.

The guys at superchips are very keen to help and the re-map is all done over the net to the Bluefin unit

    Hope this helps

Another huge thumbs up for the Bluefin from me too Yes

I have the stage 1 map for my otherwise standard DSG '30 so somewhere around 300BHP i reckon, absolutely love it and it really does transform the car and is quite a leap up from the standard map imo Smile

Has anyone got any dyno graphs of their Superchips car's?

    I've seen 'their' official sale's dyno's but I'd like to see a few example's.

    Have a look at

http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/t/239866.aspx for Superchips newer manual / dsg map

    .... and :

    http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/t/224399.aspx for their older map.

I have both, am very happy and swap between the two depending on the weather and my mood Devil

Still haven't taken the plunge on re mapping...enjoying stock performance and chassis from coming from my MKIV....MK 5 is a revelation.

Can't decide over APR or Superchips. SC are very competively priced....the dyno graphs seem very smooth on the torque. APR one seems to be top loaded with torque at the front of the graph's from what I've seen. APR prices gone back up again....alot more than SC's.

I like the cruise control option with APR and my previous experience was good.

Have a look at the rolling road days on Awesomes website. There are quite a few Remapped ED30's that have been on theirs and you'll be able to compare different maps on the same dynoCool

Why not think about GIAC ? I have this software on my S3 (same engine) it can be switched back to stock, raises rpm limit, removes mph limit etc. I had the hammer map first which gives approx 315-320 but is really smooth map, then I have had a APR fuel pump fitted and fuel pump software which increases to approx 330 - 335 which standard exhaust and filter.

Give Steve Jnr at Statller (Autorads 0800 980 1062) a ring , their E30 with exhaust, intake and fuel pump is approx 375 BHP, and goes like stink !

Keep thinking about getting the Milltek TBE for mine and going to Bluefin stage 2, believe the DP and cat make quite a difference?

They do seem to ... on the basis of what others have got I think 20-25bhp is in order !  Most seem to have gone from approx 300 bhp to 320-325 bhp.  Add a high pressure fuel pump and it seems to go to nearer 340 bhp Surprise

APR map @ awesome, but not a RR, from standstill to 70mph-ish I had gone past a new shape S3, and also had a test against a new M3 and there was nothing in it. Get it done.

    APR stuff is good !

I think any of the big name remaps perform well - I wanted APR but bought Superchips and haven't looked back.

The APR intercooler is tempting though ... very Devil

Yeap new RS Focus's in attendance...not many on track.

Car was superb all day...no brake fade issues on the EBC Yellow's and Motul RB 600F fluid.

Worked very very well bearing in mind I've come from a Tarox big brake kit and previously Pagid Blue's.

Full marks to Demon Tweeks Msport dpt for their advice on EBC despit other people not liking them. VW  Racing tried them too and like the APR mapping ....pleasantly surprised at the Yellows.

Car needs a diff and a bigger brakes ultimately then stage 2 power.

Sorry to stick my nose in but are you guys running standard internals etc. Is it really that easy to get 300+ bhp

Are you getting these BIG bhp numbers by just uprgading the fuel pump and mapping them.

I'm currently driving an mk4 R32 with around 265bhp.Bang Head

Aftyer reading this link i am SERIOUSLY considering buying an ED30.

Could anybody give me a rough idea of how much it would cost me to take a "standard" ED30 to around 350bhp? £1000? £2000?Confused

I think i could live without the V6 noise for a while.

    Thanks,

    Matt

A downpipe, pump, intake and map will see you sailing towards 330-340 with ease - No problem getting all that for less than 2k, but then you start spending money trying to use it all.

Amazing engine, insanely tunable and diesel-like torque figures.

I would have one already if they were 4 wheel drive. I've been having a look on piston heads already and found a couple of nice ones that are worth a look at.

At what point do you have to start upgrading the engine internals and clutch etc.

I honestly didnt think they were that tunableConfused

You'll need a clutch at stage2 - DSG is fine for that kind of power. Internals are solid and good for 500bhp.

Problem is the brakes are shocking, so they'd need doing. You're going to want an LSD at 330+, then it's suspension, then it's ARBs... goes on and on.

You're best picking up an enthusiast owned modded one.
