Just thought that I would my add review from the end of January:
At the start of this week I fitted a secondhand K03s and Forge TIP to my 1999 AGU Golf.
The car already had a full Milltek system, 3" Milltek downpipe and 200 cell sports cat, K&N panel filter and Revo remap.
I was doubtful as to what gains I would get from fitting a K03s and
whether it would be worth the time and money as the car had already
been rolling roaded and produced just over 200bhp! I spoke to Nick at
R-Tech and he said that I would achieve a noticeable difference and it
was a worthwhile conversion.
So I bought a K03s and Forge TIP from a member on here for a good price. Thanks MK4MooseGTI
When I fitted the turbo I discovered that the exhaust manifold had
cracked and was blowing so I had to buy another one. Thanks to Jody at
Midland VW for sorting this out for me.
Nick and Ben from R-Tech came to my house yesterday afternoon and remapped the car.
They started off by scanning the car for faults with VAG-COM and
driving the car as it was. Nick commented on how well it went for a
stage one mapped car. Then they removed the ECU and removed the chip
and read the original file from it. It turns out the Revo map was very
aggressive and ran a lot of ignition advance and about as much boost as
the little K03 could push. No wonder it was making 200bhp
The chap I bought it from was a friend of the guys at Revo so he
obviously had had the map tweaked a little from the standard stage one
map!
Nick then reflashed the ECU with his K03s/AGU map. I asked for the
map to push the K03s as hard as possible as I wanted a noticeable
difference. Nick was happy to do this with the proviso that I only run
Super Unleaded. This was no problem as I only ever run my car on Shell
V-Power which is probably a good job considering how aggressive the
Revo remap was!
Once the ECU was flashed we were ready to go. What a disappointment!
The car felt flat, the boost could be heard to be surging at around
3000-4000 rpm and the promised 5000rpm to the redline rush was non
existent. Nick suggested that we try a different diverter valve and
clean the throttle body. To be honest at this point I couldn't see how
this would make any difference.
Back to my house and Nick removed the throttle body and cleaned it
whilst Ben fitted the new Forge 007p diverter. The throttle body was
filthy, caked with oil and muck,
Once it was clean and realigned with VAG-COM were ready to go again. I
was still dubious that either of these changes would really make a
difference. How wrong was I!!! The car was transformed, smooth coming
on to boost, holding on to boost all the way to the red line and so
much faster. I was in love
Nick said that he would put the Revo map back on so that I could
compare the two maps and if I prefered the Revo map then he would leave
it on and not charge me anything! I didn't need to do this I was more
than happy to pay for the R-Tech map as it was superior in everyway.
Smoother, faster, stronger, just plain better!
I have been tuning/modding/wasting money on cars since I passed my
driving test 15 years ago so I've seen and heard it all. R-Tech are one
of the few companies that I have come across who genuinely offer an
excellent product and superb customer service. A lot of companies would
do well to learn from them. The fact that I've bothered to sit down and
type this post shows how pleased I am. Normally I am far too lazy to
write this much
If you want a remap go to them. I shall be recommending them to everyone.
I have had a few from problems with the car since. None of which have been anything to do with the remap. A brand new faulty plug resulted in a bent conrod
and the car being off the road for three months until I got round to rebuilding the engine. I have recently rebuilt the engine and put the car back on the road and having not driven it for a few months I had forgotten how quick and smooth it is and stand by all my original comments 100%. I have fallen back in love again
Nick has always been happy to help to offer support and advice whilst I was finding the cause of my dead engine. The aftersales support from R-Tech is second to none. I honestly don't think I have dealt with a company who have such good aftersales service. I am pleased to see that they are doing so well. With their quality of service and excellent value for money I can't see how they will be anything other than a success
