ASR Light has been coming on recently in mid journey, and yesterday I was out driving in a shed load of rain.  ASR Light came on again, then this morning Engine light came on with it and when I went to pull away there seemed to be no power.  Popped the bonnet and found a small pipe from the air box has somehow come lose and disconnected.  Re-fitted and the car drive fine.

Ran a scan (See results below).  Cleared the faults but both lights came on again Sad  Looking at this I presume the first step is to get a new MAF in as I've read this is what can cause the ASR & engine management lights to come on?  I think the lose pipe from the air box was isolated and should be fine now I put it back in.

Anyway, just thought I'd check with you guys as my knowledge is limited Wink

OK so I unplugged the MAF as a test, lights stayed on & boost seemed weaker than normal.  Anything else I should do to test whether it's the MAF or not?

Have you read this Tech Tip from the Ross-Tech web site?

    Diagnosing a VW/Audi MAF Failure

Perhaps you will find something there to assist.

Thanks for that Bruce, I'll investigate this further tonight Yes

A current update on the situation is that I re-scanned last night.  Cleared the faults then ran for 20 odd miles and ran another scan.  All faults vanished except for the MAF signal being too low.  However this morning I left home and the ASR light came on straight away.  Then, when I switched on the A/C, the engine management light came on!

    Full scan results from yesterday:

Right, not sure if I've done this right...  Did Group 002, got the graph up (couldn't get the peak box thing up - not sure why / how to).  Had the missus sat next to me with the lappy and got her to pause the graph as I hit 6k in 2nd.  Here are the results...

                    Address 01: Engine  (06A 906 032 DR)

    12:36:58 Group 002: General
      720 /min  Engine Speed (G28)
      31.6 %  Engine Load
      2.72 ms  Injection Timing
      0.53 g/s  Mass Air Flow (G70)

    The actual graph was reading: 6080 /min  |  91%  |  11.9ms  |  0.53g/s

...as mentioned in the Tech notes, a car with around 200bhp should be showing 160g/s (ish) at 6k in 2nd.  As you can see, 0.53g/s is well off - unless I've dont the test wrong?

Any thoughts on this peeps?  Car is basically dying when I start it in the morning unless I give it a good few revs.  Then wants to kangaroo up the road, again unless I give it a few revs.  It's fine after driving for around 10 seconds or so.  Just strange.

Ah, that would be the problem then! Stick out tongue

Looks like that small pipe on the TIP is imposing on the breather pipe.  Although Apparently the pipe splitting is a common issue regardless of the TIP...
