With the wether being so hot am missing my aircon, it used to work but I made the schoolboy error of leaving too long and thought is needed regassing.

Anyway, have recently been told it should be ok as someone pocked the 2 fill pipe thingys under the bonnet, it hissed, if it needed re-gassing that wouldn't happen right? there is no cold what so ever when I switch it on.

    Cheers

will still be abit of gas in them just not enough

    take it to get done,

they will do a recovery, take out the gas thats in

then do a vacuum check, see if their is any leaks

then refill to correct amount with a UV dye in.

Is there anyway I can do checks first, pumps, compressor, electrics, leaks etc etc, don't wanna waste money on a refill not needed.

I would just go ahead and get it done for what it costs. Worth doing as a service item I think every couple of years.  Guy who did mine last said they can lose a certain percentage of their efficiency over a couple of years anyway. May get mine re done soon as its 3 years and about 30k ago since it had a re-gas.  Still seems ok but im sure i will notice a difference like i did the last time.

Just had mine done after being reminded by this thread. Supposed to have something like 750g of refrigerant stuff in the system, but when it was drawn out mine had just over 500 odd g.  After 3 years it had gradually lost nearly a 3rd of the fluid.  Nothing to do with leaks though as this is just normal over time.

The system was checked for leaks with no fluid in and no leaks were found.  The system then gets lubricated, and then the full 750g (or whatever) of refrigerant then gets pumped back in.

On testing it, it blew out freezing almost instantly which was great.  It worked ok before getting it done but because the decrease in its performance is gradual, you dont notice the difference until you get it recharged.  Apparently the less refrigerant in the system, the harder the car has to work to maintain the low temperature, until it just stops working.

If it hasnt been done in 2 or more years well worth doing in any event i think.  Not something you can do any diy checks with beforehand as the machine does everything required.
