Im reallyconfuse with insurance now, the crazy quote ive been getting is beyond funny

Im 21, 1 year named driving expirence + pass date, living in the n16 area parking on a driveway

Car in question , VW Golf S TDI90 '1999 (insurance group manages to be 9)

Under my mothers names im currently paying £1200 with zurich its renewal time & id like to see what im getting under my name

    BUT...

    Elephant want £1300

    Bell want          £1600

    Aviva want        £4800

    Adrian Flux want £1322.24.

What the hell man for crap TDI 90?

Im feeling to drop down to a 1.4 which is a group 4

but im already getting higher quotes

    Elephat want £1400 etc

im confused and stressed as its not making sense seeing how some 18,19 yearold (no ncb) members are paying £1300 for £5,000+ cars

Thats mental! have you tried putting your mum on your insurance as a named driver. I used to do that when I was younger and it brought my insurance down by lots. Try bumping up your excess too.

Well im on a 1.4 match late 2003 at 18 just. Ive had it since i passed at 17 last september and got an Aviva 9 month rapid bonus scheme fully comp on insurance in my own name. Cost me £1600. Despite what other people had said (i saw in another thread) about you having to stick with the same company to get the extra NCB i didn't find this. Aviva simply said to me explain you have been on the rapid bonus scheme and see if they will honor it. 99% of the firms i tried honored so i don't get what people are on about in the other thread. I came to renew it last week and have got the same policy this year for £779 fully comp again in my own name.

It confusing me how come you are getting charged such an excessive premium on the diesel... With 15 bhp more than the 1.4.

Have you tried saying to the firms.. "Is that the best price you can do".. i said than on mine and they go away and um and ahh and come back with often a very good price, well thats what i managed to do. I got a fair few hundred off just by asking.

True but id have to have Grands off, id really like to go with aviva but they are the wildest quotes out of the bunch, my girl used to work for insurance so she said insurance around£1000 is possible within the quoters powers according to my details.

ill see if i can talk to them. thanks for the info

I just talked to Aviva and they refused to adjust the insurance even tho i told them i got a quote with elephant for £1300

i even asked what would be the price IF i had NCB they said £2300 LOL

i think they have managed to blacklist me because thats just wild

Im really geared to swap my car for a 1.4 s golf, would the petrol consumption be a major difference? which is my only fear

As long as you keep within your agreed bhp limit, you can do whatever you want to the car at no extra cost.I got a quote with all mods decleared and mapped to 190bhp for less than anyone else quoted me for a std carSurprise

im 21 now, i highly doubt they would deny me. Thats normally the age you need for these small companies + sometime 1 years NCB

im not too bothered about the speed, the fact my car is crippled has saved my licence a few times, even the other day i was coming back from work @3-4 in the morning... on my main road every driver decided to not use the bus lane so i cruised up and waited for the green and floored it pass everyone (30 up to 45) then a focus pulled out behind me and flew pasts me ( my foot was still on the floor but i knew my car wasn't going anywhere) he over took me and then i saw the 2 secret blue lights flashing!! they let me off but anyhow i was in a V6 id be in court!

ive learnt my lesson through my mistakes, most of the time i drive slow to maximize fuel.

I hope they give me a good quote!

I'm 21, no ncb due to being a named driver until now, but no claims or points... Called brentacre with my 75bhp and they wanted £1300.... Give them a try, they are a really friendly team and were surprised themselves they couldn't cover me for less.... Flux also quoted me about the same

I managed to get cover from Admiral for £729 fully comp with all mods declared in the end

Bloody hell - your getting raped sideways.

    I'm paying £950 for my A3 2.0 TDI S-Line DSG (ins grp 13 i think) and I'm 19, No NCB.

Also paying £1243 on my Accord Type R, Insurance group 17.

One's with Bell, One's with admiral, decent excess :S

A member asked my broker to get him a quote and he was 17 and wanted a mk4 1.8T 150 and got him a quote of just under £1700 :S

An you asked about 1.4 petrol consumption - its shyttt !!

Mine did 200miles from £40 (it was 98ishp a litre then) - it was ok around town but A roads, motorways - you have to floor it to get to a decent speed or overtake!

It wasnt my driving style either, my A3 gets just under a hundred miles from £10.

     thats crazy!

when i first insured my Golf, i was 21, zero NCB and added mum and dad as named drivers. cost me £1080 for the 1.8T!

    renewal came = £780

renewal came = £540, but i changed insurance to Greenlight to declare EVERY mod on the car and that came to = £770!

this years renewal came from Greenlight = £600!!!

mines gone down and down, i'm now over halfway through the year so at christmas i'll have 4 years NCB! wicked!!!!!! (I HOPE! TOUCH WOOD!!!)

my advice is to just keep shopping around, bear in mind that you'll get discount from Flux and Greenlight through the forum as well! you just gotta bite the bullet and pay it i'm afraid!

Nah man ill accept something around 1000,  based on the fact my average quotes(by my self) is @ 1300. It can be possible to pull off with adding mother etc.

My main confusing is that so far is that calling amounts to nothing, they really don't care if i take it or not!

I asked Zurich today   'How does a clean policy's price go up?'
Zurich said                 "inflation, cost of repairs, etc"
I said                           'I havnt crashed my car, so how does that affect me & my renewal'
Zurich said                  'that's the final price'. Basically take it or leave it
    Surprise

Ill try Greenlight Jammy, Flux gave me the quote of 1400? i asked through the forum so im guessing that is with discount...

Lowell [pause] Did you seriously pay £2500 for a Rover, 3rd party, named....

if more people shopped around for their car insurance, it'd be cheaper as companies would be more competitive! its mad that some people don't even bother to do this! they get a letter 4 weeks before renewal time saying "insurance will run out in 4 weeks, do nothing and we will automatically renew you for another year!" and then people do nothing and spend too much on insurance!

    its mad!

i religiously scour the net for the best, if i can use quidco, i will. if i can find a voucher code, i'll use it!

dont call them up, just do quotes on the internet, its a waste of time since the prices are more competitive on the net.

play around with excess amounts, you can lower premiums with higher excess. and put one of your parents on, if you can your mum!

it brought mine down to under £500 Cool

    To Do List...Way Too Long!

that does seem really quite high for insurance.

im 18 with 1 years no claims, and im paying £720 on a mk5 1.6fsi golf. i found that admiral were the cheapest by a long way, when you get a quote from them direct, not through a comparing site. although my excess is quite high
