That'll be an awesome project.  THe torque of the 1.8T with 4Mo is the perfect combination IMO.  Yes

GT 28 bolted on to aid in the 4MO sapping power would be a MEGA combo i think

This is going to be exciting,

Going to need a performance haldex on that little beast, So its essentially going to be like an old shape S3 then? but for half the money at a guess!

    Get to it!

Thats pretty much what im after, yeap!

Im still unsure of gearbox though. I do need one from a 1.8t Quattro audi s3 or TT? The 4mo one wont fit the 1.8t engine will it?

If it's a proper cage that you're going to potentially rely on to save your life, this is right up at the top of the list of 'Things You Really Don't Want To Do On The Cheap', together with brakes.

If it's a show cage, the only question that springs to mind is..... well...... why?  Totally pointless.

What do you want it for? If you're just getting it for 'The Look' then there's not much point getting a proper cage because a) proper ones that do what they're intended to do are expensive b) it'll make your car far less practical even just in terms of getting in and out of your car  c) they add weight d) will need a decent amount of welding and chopping about of the interior to make it fit (this isn't usually an issue for track cars as they all run sans interior.

If you're not going to track it, there's no point in a proper cage.  The fact that you're not sure about which you want, suggests you really just want one for show, so a show cage will do all you want it to.

    Ow yes Wink

I have a daily driver, so why not do something different. I would like to use these Cupra seats though, but wouldnt be able to use harnesses with them Sad

The standard brakes will have to be ok for now though as I cant afford anything better! Although the next set of brembos to come in of an LCR have my name on them.

I am ITCHING to get to work on this car, unfortunately I have work Saturday and will be with the misses all Saturday night and Sunday as its her birthday, then work again Monday! Bugger.

    IbanezDan51:

I would like to use these Cupra seats though, but wouldnt be able to use harnesses with them Sad

The standard brakes will have to be ok for now though as I cant afford anything better! Although the next set of brembos to come in of an LCR have my name on them.

It's a project - use the cupra seats for now to get it running and rolling and on the road, then when time and funds allow, stump up for some proper seats and belts!

As for brakes, the 312 set up will more than stop you, the biggest issue is dealing with the heat generated by repeated high speed stops. A decent set of pads (DS2500s, Pagid Blues those sorts of things), some discs with a high carbon content and some RBF600 brake fluid will be more than sufficient.  Although 4 pots look big and nice, you can only brake so much before you lock up your wheels.

However, one big advantage of big 4 pot calipers and two piece discs is a reduction in unsprung weight and an ability to cope with the temperatures.

Thats good to know! Like you say, over time I can upgrade it! Most important thing is getting it running and road worthy at the moment.

Jon, im sure over the course of this project you and many others will be bombbarded with questions from myself, so I'd just like to say cheers for everyones help in the upcoming months...

If anyone has any of the parts for sale on the list im going to post could you please PM me. I will be after:

    1.8t engine
    ECU
    Wiring loom
    Suitable gearbox
    Front slam panel
    Wings (Black magic I think?)
    Bumper
    Bonnet

These will be some of the first things I need to sort. Will I need clocks from a 1.8t or can the clocks in my car be coded in to work?
