hey guys, i just want to say im pretty new to this forum (4 days or something) and am hoping to change my golf's appearance and basically document it from beginning to end with suggestions and help from you guys Smile

i have a 1.4 so its not exactly built for performance but tbh i dont plan to keep it for more than a year and a bit so it'll probably be alot more of an aesthetic build.

i bought my car on friday at auction for 2 grand ( 70000 miles on the clock) which i thought wasnt too bad considering i wouldnt get insured at a sane price on a gti as im only 19 Sad

here is some pics ive got of it in the past couple days, this is how i bought it.

obviously i gave it a good wash, but as you can see it already has an r32 back bumper which is missing Dual exhausts

the front left head light is out but ive already ordered a new set of bulbs. cheap xenons look-a-likes lol

    just a wee side view

the plan so far is dual exhausts with both actually working, a new mp3/ipod stereo to replace the original, r32 front bumper, and colour coded door strips.

ive already changed the back discs and pads as there was a vibration in the steering wheel, which didnt stop so im changing the front ones tomorrow. that should sort the vibration. unless its something else? if your clued up please do fill me in Big Smile thanks.

Well heres to a good start Beer

hey mate, for 2k the car is a good deal!!!

as in the vibration, it could be a simple as getting your  wheels balanced!!

it only happens when braking so its probably a warped disk just thought it was the back ones because the front ones were pretty new

Yeah i was going to suggest wheel alignment. Check if your tyres have uneven wear on them.

EDIT Yeah probably a warped disk then!!

also this is the bumper im planning on getting. thought it was a decent price and its ABS plastic.

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VOLKSWAGEN-VW-GOLF-IV-MK4-FRONT-BUMPER-R32-SPORT-STYLE_W0QQitemZ160399569143QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item25588f30f7#ht_3836wt_1165

and im going to spray my calipers red as the front ones are blue and the back ones are just plain.

well i missed my chance to get the front bumper on ebay so i'll have to try and find a cheap deal somewhere.

also im not too clued up about exhausts. i want to get the dual exhausts but do i just get it from the cat back? will it have that ridiculously annoying boy racer noise when ur goin like 5 mph.

    any help is appreciated :)

Debadge The Rear, Stubby aerial and get aero wiper blades. Or de-wiper the rear aswell. These are cheap modifications that look good, In My Opinion Smile Yes

A catback system shouldnt be too loud if you get something decent. Try Powerflow or Miltek !

if i take the back blades off what will i do with the water pump thing? on the wiper controls?

so like i said yesterday i changed my front brake pads and disks and they are mint now, brakings a bit mushy atm but got to run on them a bit i guess.

got the bulbs in aswell. better than the yellow ones? better than having one headlight anyway Stick out tongue

took some night time pics near my house kinda looking over parts of glasgow. was gonna go for more pics but i had to be somewhere, nothing special tho :/ need a better camera.

ive got a stereo coming in tomorrow or the day after, cant wait to listen to my own music instead of the radio all the time lol

and may consider de-badging the back. this is a wee photoshop of it without a badge, doesnt look too bad.

You take out the motor and unplug the pipe. Then you can cable tie it to create a kink so no water can come out Yes

Debadged definately looks better. You can keep the VW badge just take off the GOLF lol makes polishing easier aswell Smile

    Ok just a minor update.

i got a stereo in there that plays mp3 and has an AUX cable for an ipod. will be debadging the rear tomorrow.

also ive found a place that'll paint the bumper im going to buy for 200 (including fitting and blending with wings)

bumpers going to cost around 160-170 tops with delivery so im looking at around 300 for the front at most

i'll get some picks of the debadge when it happens Smile

    latest update Smile

just finished removing the golf sign. it was surprisingly easy, only took 20 minutes, i didnt even use a hair dryer or anything. just some dental floss behind those bad boys and they came straight off and the adhesive i just picked at with my nail till the majority came off and i used T-cut for the last of it.

heres a before and after :-

    BEFORE

    AFTER

and this one is for the hell of it lol as the sun really brought out the shine in the car.

im going to wait till the end of the month before actually getting the bumper done because ive got to get new road tax (how much is it anyway?)and ive got another 170 quid going out on my phone/gym/insurance.

waiting for my Uk-MKivs sticker to come through the post ordered it about 2 weeks ago, should come soonish Confused

ive got some new pics of the car using an SLR with the help of my mate will stick those up as soon as i get them.

i enjoy whoring the car so much and its not even that nice yet lolStick out tongue

im interested in a stubby aerial, anyone got any advice on price range and generally just a good one?

hey guys ive finally found an ABS r32 replica front bumper for 165 (delivered) and i was planning on buying it.

firstly im not too fussed about the price as i was looking for something around 150 so its not too bad. the main worry i have is will it fit properly on my 1.4 mounts? it says it will but i just want ot be 100% sure before getting it.

any help is much appreciated Smile

nice car man, welcome to the 1.4 crew lol.

and yes the bumper will fit no problem, with all replica's it'll prob need a little elbow grease for it to fit properly.

i rekon you change the rear lights to some gti/r32 ones too while ur at it :D

    thanks irfan Smile

yeh i plan to get gti lights but need to sort the exhaust out first, hate having the 2 gaps in the bumper. but im guessing im going to have to get a full system as a catback wont fit because of the spare wheel section underneath.

have you got the r32 back bumper on?

     no probs man.

yup i got genuine front and rear bumpers (still looking for skirts and spoiler!)

but yeah your right about the spare wheel well however you can still have both pipes there!

with mine (also a 1.4) ive just had a custom exhaust made from Prospeed exhausts. basically they made me a backbox with the custom tailpipes, and made a 'y' piece of exhaust which goes from the back of the backbox, around the spare wheel well, and out of the drivers side!

i rang longlife originally and they told me they couldnt do that so that put me off them big time... but it can be done easy peezy man. i could have had a catback but personally couldnt see the point being a 1.4 you wouldnt see huge gains!

if you want an off the shelf product, Milltek do an exhaust set up simular to mine and is a catback. milltek's have been praised to death but at like £460 whats the freaking point lol. you cant choose the sound of with off the shelf shiz where as custom you can change what you want ;)

hope all that helps dude! keep us posted

but thats some useful info on the exhaust situation Stick out tongue

just need to find a place that does custom exhausts in scotland, glasgow even. do you have any pics of your exhaust, like before its on or something?

    cheers manBeer
