I'm surprised and impressed that on here there is a large contingent of petrol turbo owners with high milers. Throws it to the wind that everyone says diesels are the ones with the big miles. Seems pretty even to me.

As Olly says, Neil Birkitt's 1.8t from VW Driver mag is currently on about 246k - highest mileage 1.8t I've heard of. Admittedly has had a recent engine transplant / upgrade to K04 as the retro fitted K03s turbo went, but vast majority of the miles were still on the original AGU engine as far as I've read...

Hope this means mine's got plenty of life ahead of it!!

Its all about how they're looked after. Mine had a FSH, and the previous owners (a Company and My Dad) Both got everything done as soon as it needed it.

It got a new turbo at about 150k but apart from that its only ever needed general wear and tear stuff.

127,110 miles on original clutch....but new turbo, new headgasket, and the usual cambelt changes.

Whilst the engine is still being broken in, the rest of the car is 'falling apart'. [N]

My original clutch lasted until 140k. I got a remap and it went 3 days later!

My 115PD GT TDI golf is on 165k miles now. Ive done 82k of those myself over the last 3 or 4 years. Engine is completely standard. As vagwinner says, the secret is regular servicing. I do a full service on mine every 10k and it never uses any oil in between services. Performance wise, its still pulling strong and i usually average around 60mpg on my 70mile round trip to work every day. :)
