Mine's scabby and cba with it. I'm going to see this again in sunlight and try not be so picky with it. If it's solid, I'll buy it. Mine needs 1/4s and these are solid. As is the boot, bonnet, wings. Can sell the wheels etc. There's scabs on teh passenger sill and I'm not sure if it's rust or just rough. If it's just rough it'll be fine. :)

So there's a word on the streets that you're breaking a mk4. Doesn't seem like it's the moustached one, is it?

Made a new friend:

I won't bore you with the usual "here's how to two-bucket method wash a car, clay it, blah blah blah", so here it is being stripped:

The amount I was going to spend on paint it's cheaper to buy a new car.  This one was 700 quid.  80k, 3 owners, no optional extras except 5 doors.

Here's it after a clay and a wash:  Morgen wore her best clothes:

Wheels are stupid, calipers aren't painted, shafts aren't machined down, chassis looks ok, wrong steering wheel, dash....
oh_for_fox_sake_postcard-rc43b87954b2c4a this one has a back box.... Is it really your car? Waait, I get it now, damn it, took a bit. You bought another car and going to swap stuff over.
You know what sucks the most doing so, the tiniest little things. For ex.: A mark on the dash will make you mad since you didn't have that before, maybe some squeeky plastic somewhere. On your car parts has been changed, all bolts will undo fine, you can remove stuff at ease, on the new shell, I can guarantee you'll get stuck somewhere. Etc.

Those pictures are the new shell.  Absolutely everything came off fine.  Engine out in an hour; shafts all unbolted, suspension all unbolted.  Even the track rods!

Current status:

Rear beam and 312mm rears on.

Front suspension and brakes on.

Interior in.

Engine out.

Need to do:

Add engine.

Add headlining, some wiring.

Do boot build and add amps.

Paint.

Rear beam and 312mm rears on

Is that a typo or real? Don't think I've heard of such large rear brakes on a golf!

Edit: Err yeah I found them on Ebay, mental!

Yeah, it is. Check out a few pages back, I've posted the dimensions up! :) Carriers need a little nip with a grinder but no biggy. Feck paying 200 for the kit on eBay when this "kit" cost me a tenner and a pair of discs.

I've read about half your thread so far, so impressed with all the engineering. Very inspirational!

Some courage to take the plunge and go for a new shell, nice to see you're getting everything swapped over quickly!

Random question - are those arch liners staying out or will you put some in? And what about the R32 seats, I noticed you were selling a set?

I'm going to attempt to get them in; who knows how much trimming they'll need because of air.  The R32s are for sale; they're just to see how they'd look! haha.

Tidied and bolted down all the loom:
34095854761_13a4b6dee1_k.jpg

Ran it to the manifold and labelled up the wood so I know what line goes where!:

Sloooowww:
34186064146_389b78a711_k.jpg

I've used two bolt down distribution blocks for feed and ground. Made up a choc-block style bus bar for ignition lives. I've got three so far, but have an idea for a fourth:
34069599622_896407cde4_k.jpg

I'm making a little sliding lid for the RHS. Used a router to get it trimmed but it's very beaver style:
33842738380_db767fd3a6_k.jpg

Started building up the next layer for a little more depth:
34186128586_bfaa98780e_k.jpg

Now bolted down:
33842742290_6d608ee036_k.jpg

Spy the little pocket on the right. It holds about 6 cans:

33384925424_b0773c5bc1_k.jpg

33384920024_8f2ffd07b0_k.jpg

My pocket needs a trim and a sand but it's close.

Looking good Adam! I'm liking the neat wiring for the boot build  :Y: Are you gonna do anything with the air tank? It'd look great polished or brushed I think.

I'm tempted to get it painted but it'll end up trashed in a few weeks. That's why the current one looks so abused.

How about getting it painted then wrapping it clear for extra protection?

Just trying to build my idea of a clean Mk4.
