Hi all ok yesterday i checked on my oil and was a bit low so took the filler cap off to find creamy sludge on the cap so i set about having a look at the pcv system and found loads of sludge,i cleaned up what i could but couldn't get one of the pipes of that sits under the manifold.

How do i cure this or is something wrong with the car. The car has just over 30k on the clock

Thoughts and ideas would be great

It also makes sense to check out the thermostat because if it fails open the engine will be overcooled which may cause the problem or will make it worse.

Also worth checking the fan controller as if the rad fan is permanently on that too will cause overcooling

Hello thanks for your reply's some time back not long after getting the car which was about 2 months ago i posted on here about how long the car takes to get warm and it does vary according to the outside temp but the previous owners of this car did on average 3.5k miles a year so i think that has something to do with it .

I'm now using the car on a daily basis as my daily ride to work which is around 16 miles each way i haven't done any motorway driving yet is there anything else i should look at.

Just keep and eye on the water and the oil of the car, other than that I dunno, if the car goes up to about 3/4 on the temp and doesn't drop it could mean your thermostat is dead and needs replacing, if it goes back down it's fine, I'm new to the VW scene, lol, I'm used to Pugs and Poxhall's..... but now own a Vee Dub 2.Slow Golf MK4
