Hi guys.

Ive had a 1.4S Seat Leon coming up to 3 years (My first car).

I have been looking at either a Golf MKV GTI or TDI. I did look at the 1.4TSI but apparently its best to avoid them.

Insurance wise its actually cheaper to insure the GTI.

I hear the mpg is anywhere between high teens (when thrashing it) up to 40mpg when doing motorway miles. Most of my miles will be done on A roads and only during the weekends. Around 80-120 miles a week. I have read the 1.4S leon does around 35-40mpg so there shouldn't be a huge different unless I decide to give it some beans, lol.

Could anyone advise me on what to look for when I go to view one? I have £3500-£4000 and im hoping to get one with around 100k miles.

Thanks in advance

Out of interest, why best to avoid the 1.4 TSI?

The piston rings have a bad habit of falling out.

You'll see high 20's driving the GTI. The misses ED30 averages 24, DSG. Her mum's manual GTI did 38 on the same town journey her ED30 does 24 in.

I asked a few mechanics I know through work and a lot of them said avoid it and go with the GTI if I can. Didn't really say why.
