Hi all,

Can't seem to find anything except Millltek and Scorpion for a back box.

Any other brands out there? I need a discrete type and 2.5 inch diameter.... I think

I asked my friend who's a mechanic and he said the opposite. I'll give it a go though.
Ring a specialist or standard exhaust shop?

yes but a mechanic is different to an exhaust specialist. a mechanic will want to bolt off/ bolt on parts, an exhaust specialist will have the tools/ knowledge to measure up and make an exhaust.

He means a specialist will cost a lot more because it's custom made. Not just a bolt on Milltek. What sort of place should I be looking at then? Confused

There's plenty of others just google exhaust manufacturers I had one made for my mk1 £360 manifold back stainless lifetime warranty if you took it back for inspection every year.

Think I'd need a down pipe, mid and back box. Would they fabricate the whole lot? (newbie on this)

I have a 2 1/2 custom turbo back on my car which was less than £500 just over 5 years ago. Try Style Dynamixs they used to be long life but o think they ditched the franchise and now just do their own custom work.

Does your back box have a cat in it?

The cat is no where near the back box on a mk4

So why's it called a back cat box on some of these listings? Just to get views?

Ah I see it's just baffles on a standard exhaust. What's inside a Milltek for example?

They are called Cat back systems IE: start where the cat finishes, Milltek do a full sytem with downpipe which deletes the cat (DE-CAT) making the turbo spool quicker. From an MOT point of view legally you should have one fitted.

Quick update:

Gonna stick with the standard bore decat and backbox as it's only a couple of years old if that. I can't justify spending so much to gain so little. If I ever fitted a larger turbo than the VB then maybe but the piggy bank and reasoning don't add up.

Mot coming up, new tyres soon and still the bumper to fiddle with if I get bored. Might give it wash but that's not even interesting me that much...

Poor old thing.

Cheers for all the input lads.

I called up Style Dynamics about a month ago to get a quote to get a 3" turbo-back (excluding the downpipe as I can use a Toyosports one) and they quoted me £899.

Their work is very good though.

Just trying to build my idea of a clean Mk4.

Was it gold plated and diamond encrusted?

I'm in two  minds to go for platinum or gold

Had the windows down earlier and my standard backbox with standard bore decat sounded lush. Plenty of whoosh from the GT1749VB into the SFS outlet pipe and quite a racket out the back.

I wish I had the money to tinker and compare it to a stainless sports back.... sigh...

you've got a diesel right? you can delete the backbox and replace it with just a pipe it's called a rearbox delete or straight through exhaust.... it should be cheap and can be home made....  basically just cut the box off, replace that bit with a piece of pipe job done (you might want to weld the support to it, or use a universal exhaust hanger)

Diesel yes mate. I've seen a few videos and they're all so loud! I really don't want the coo noise either. if my old exhaust was knackered I'd give it a go but it's fairly new so I'll leave it for now.
