Bought myself an Audi A3 PD130 2003 in March 2011. The
intention was that it would be much better on fuel than my previous Fiesta
Zetec-S, I was originally just going to buy some decent wheels to replace the
pepper pots it came with.

The car itself was a little tatty; a few car park scratches,
a crack in the front bumper and a little dent on the rear bumper, but was to be
expected on a car with 168000 miles with one lady owner.

Only a few pictures from then until now, didn’t really
track any of its progress but looking to make some big changes over the next
few months. Wont bore you with history so here’s a current spec sheet of what’s
been done.

Engine

PD130 1.9TDi

Remapped By Awesome GTi – Stage 1

Forge Front-to-Back and Side-to-Side short shift kit

Powerflex Diesel Polyurethane Dog mount bush

Suspension & Handling

Lowered on JOM Coilovers

20mm Hub centric Spacers

17” 7.5j Porsche Replica wheels with 205/50/17s

Rear Beam Powerflex polybush

PSI tuning polybush top mounts & polo top caps

Interior

Audi S3 Full leather Recaro’s, wired for electric
adjustment and heating

Rear leather bench

Alpine IVA-D106R head unit with iPod, Bluetooth &
Sat-Nav

Full LED interior light conversion

Audi TT Pedals

Exterior

ABT Front Grill

Retrofitted OEM Fogs

6k HID kit

Ultra full beam bulbs

LED sidelights

All done by myself bar the map and rear bushes.

Got a few parts in the garage ready to go one the car
over winter:

PD150 GT1749VB Turbo

LCR 323mm Brembo Brake set up

Twin Pass FMIC, 1.8T Pancake pipe & Forge Map
sensor. Just need to buy the correct pipework and an EGR delete valve.

I know that its an A3 and not a golf/bora but the Audi
website I have been on don’t have half as much information on or interest in a
soot chucker compered to MKIV’s

Will get some pictures on once I’ve found where iPhoto
on this mac puts them and upload them to photo bucket

Small update

Bought some Powerflex top mount bushes from Awesome GTi to replace the PSI tuning ones, also bought two plate surrounds, only a tenner. Just waiting for delivery

Bought some TT Comps to replace the current tt wheels. Wanted to space them out so used some 20mm spacers i had on rear, sat nice but did rub on the arches so i lost a little paint. Ended up buying some 15mm's from Clix_007 on here so will fit them soon.

Fitted some OEM aero arms and wipers. Had a little trouble with the passenger side stud so had to get the die set out and rethread it. Much improved over standard arms with eBay retrofit aero wipers

Rear wiper motor gave up the ghost so have removed the arm as it was stuck halfway up the screen. Considering permanently de-wipering

Purchased an S3 rear spoiler to try improve the look of the rear end, seems as though it may have to be tiger sealed on unless I have OEM mounting holes hidded under the tiny standard spoiler

The last part of the update is my last purchase which i hope to get fitted as soon as I can

Posted Image

An allard FMIC kit to replace the standard SMIC. Bought all the silicon 3mm & 4mm piping to do the N18 & N239 valve delete alongside some black jubilee clips. Will be replacing the blue silicone bends with black and will be getting the aluminium pipes powder coated black for a stealth install

Will get some pictures of the car with the new wheels and spacers ones the snow has cleared and I can actually clean it

Cheers Dan. Hopefully can get the majority of the work done on friday when I finally get a day to myself.

Also bought some new pads for the Brembo's today, seems a pretty easy job to fit them. Will re bleed the whole system when changed, using a Gunson bleed kit so should be plain sailing

Previous post didnt work from my phone

Anyway, Only got the map from awesome due to only wanting stage 1 at the time and at £150 could really complain. Only purchased the 42dd bushes and polybushes from them down to the price as no where else could price match or offer free postage. Done the majority of work done to the car by myself or a local vw specialist for the rear beam bushes and cam belt etc

No pics yet as theres been no progress. Had to rescue the car from under 7 inches of snow this morning to get to work, which I had to set off early as I had to take my dad to work as he couldnt be bothered to clear the snow from his A7.

Hopefully the snow will clear for friday so some progress can be made on my day off

Only a small update but still no pictures

Fitted some new pads to the brembos, was amazing how little time it took compared to the change we did to a mates fiesta the same day. Still need to get the whole system bled as its still got a bit of sponginess in the pedal.

The car is booked in on Saturday for the intercooler fitting along with the egr delete and an SFS turbo outlet pipe. Just not got enough time to do it myself in time for what else has been booked for the car

And that is a trip to darkside development!! Gonna be getting the pd150 turbo fitted and a new map to get the best out of the set up. I'm hoping for somewhere between 190-200bhp.

Next on the to do list is paint and fit the S3 spoiler

The intercooler was installed on saturday. Unfortunately where the pipework from the turbo comes part the corner of the rad the plastic/fibreglass front panel was not trimmed so when re installing the bumper the fog light area was cut out. Slightly disappointed but needed the car as i had work early hours on sunday so couldnt leave it with them any longer.

Never got any photos of the SFS pipe but will be checking it out tonight to make sure its angled right and not rubbing on the drive shaft.

Also even though the pipework is advertised as a 130 kit my map sensor is too small for the hole so currently using some gasket paper to reduce the boost leak until my map adaptors from forge arrive.

A month since i last updated this thread. The cars had a fair bit of work done since.

Fitted the powerflex top mount bushes and replaced the PSI ones, much less creaking and using the original golf top caps instead of the polo's

Tidied up the FMIC bottom pipe to hide it behind the grill, had to cut the grill a fair amount but definitely improves the stealth look of the car. On the lookout for a new lower bumper so I can put my fog back in after cutting out the mounting points on the current one.

My forge map sensor adaptor turned up the day before my mapping was done, was pretty nervous as it was leaking like mad without it.

And to the big one. Went to Darkside and got my 150 turbo fitted along side a custom map, and a De-cat after Scott rang me up saying the current cat was standard and may have restricted the power output. The change is incredible! Feels like a different car. The final figures were 196bhp and 338ft-lb which I'm more than happy with. The launch control and hard cut rev limit are certainly fun to play with and get some very strange looks at times.

Have the car booked in at CG motorsports for a 6 paddle clutch to be fitted on tuesday as the clutch has started to slip and I have some spare cash I would have otherwise slightly intoxicated away.

Cleaned and waxed the car after the horrible weather weve had up north recently

And treat myself to a new box since it was on offer for £300 all in

Seems no one is interested in the Derv......

Well I'll update anyway.

Saw some AP coilovers on eBay along with a TT arb. Messaged the seller and got them for £200 and got them picked up through the courier we use at work :)

They arrived within 24 hours of organising collection. So the same night it was time to remove the JOM's. Safe to say then even though they are only just a year old, they looked pretty tired with next to no paint left on the springs and all the shock bodies looking a little worse for wear. Sold them to a mate who's just got a mk4 and needed lows from coming from a slammed fiesta to a standard boat gt tdi.

Unfortunately one of the bearings has seen much better days but didnt buy any as they are only 6 months old so will be getting some this weekend to put in :)

Swapping coilovers with coilovers was much much more easier than swapping standard suspension and coils.

Only really got 1 picture from the swap

Thats all for now folks!! Next update soon

Sorry mate, couldn't help myself.

Find the ride a lot more progressive with the AP's, better defined than the JOM's.

Need to find a day where I wont need to use the car so I can drop the subframe and swap over the ARB, need to measure it as I might as well poly the mounts whilst its off.

After installing the AP's and letting them settle it turned out that I hadnt set them as low as the JOM's. So set about turning them a few threads down. Looks like i need a couple more threads to go down before it sits quite right

Had the ABS warning light come on as well as the brake failure warning after I had lowered the AP's, gave the car a scan with vag com and it said there was an implausible signal from both sensors. Turned out that both plugs had a cable snap :(

Quick trip to the scrapyard and £2 later 4 plugs with wiring looms were bought. Just a case of a bit of soldering and clearing the fault code and the ABS issue was fixed.

Just got a problem with a mechanical failure from the steering angle sensor. Ross tech site says it may just need a recalibration. Heres Hoping

Steering angle sensor fault has gone :D the steering wheel has never been on quite straight since i had the car. Took it off re aligned and it cleared the fault. But looking at the wheels it looks like my tracking is off by a fair whack at one side.

Woke up this morning after a night shift with all the enthusiasm to fit the TT arb, however the good weather means I don't want to be stuck under the car for hours so it shall be getting a full detail instead.

Looking into buying a rear arb just to tighten up the rear end as it can be a little sloppy when being pushed, Looking at eibach or H&R but it all comes down to cost when i have funds ready for it

Not much has happened with the car recently, just getting washed every so often.

However was browsing ebay on my day off and made an offer on a set of seats which i didnt think would be accepted. It was which meant a 2 hour drive was made to go and collect my new seats.

The guy selling the seats had enough stock for most mk4 enthusiasts, was amazed as he took me round his warehouse

Anyway... got the seats home to find the airbag wiring was difficult, and not wanting to cut up existing wiring on the car or the new seats I made a trip to the scrapyard to get looms from a Golf and an A3 to make a harness adaptor. My results

Audi A3 airbag plug on the left and Golf airbag plug on the right

Just for future reference the colours that need to be joined if anyone has the same problem

Anybody want to take a guess as to what the new seats are before i put up a picture ;)

No one wanted to guess. So anyway. New Seats!!

The picture makes the seats look dirty which they definitely arent. The had a bit of bobbling on the alcantara but nothing a lint shaver didnt fix and theyre now looks spot on.

Was happy to find out the heated seat elements work in both seats so it wasnt a complete waste of time me making a heated loom in the car
