What a nightmare - clutch sounds like its faulty if its making a clonk when you depress the pedal. I believe I read in the haynes manual its Hydraulic linkage so if the noise is from the gearbox/clutch area then its something in there. I wonder if the stealer left a screwdriver in there - Cringe!

A quick question,

Was the 'trouble s electing gears' resulting in a 'Crunch'? When cold?

My 6spd Box is 'Crunching' into 2nd gear when cold... this problem goes away when it has warmed up....

Welcome to the forum Roger.

It was crunching all the time when cold, gradually went when warming up.

Problem did not dissappear when fully warm.

Sold the car now.

I don't think VAG are capable of making a decent gearbox. Mine is also a nightmare going from

1 to 2 (and sometimes now to 3 as well). The throw is also way too much and I can practice

changing gears at home with a wooden spoon inserted into the top of a welly.

I bought poly bushes for the rear tranny mount to see if it tightened anything up but I just

have a driveable vibrator now with a poor gearbox.

I drove my mums Focus the other day and couldn't believe how much better the shift was.

Apparently the VW gearbox has been virtually the same for about 20 years or something...
