When I got my MK 5, this forum was buzzing, I don't seem to see many posts of those awaiting delivery of their MK7.

I should get mine in around a month.

Thought I'd post this up (pretty much copied from a thread of mine over on another forum), and whilst not a GTI, might be nice for Damian Big Smile

Car was collected Mid September and I spent the first 2 days detailing it how I wanted it, so I'll let the pictures do the talking.

I had asked the dealer not to prep the car so the paint work was in excellent condition. So, this is what greeted us this morning at the dealership. Sorry, went a bit overboard with the photos.

So, afterwards, drove the car straight home and began the preparation process.

First I removed the number plates, then power washed the car down, followed by a liberal coating of AF Snow foam. Whilst the snow foam as dwelling, I hit all the nooks and crannies with a detailing brush with Megs APC. Then rinsed.

Followed with a hand wash using the Two bucket method with Megs lambswool mits. Then rinsed.

Hit the paintwork with a liberal coat of Iron-X, and i was genuinely surprised at the level of fall out the car had. Then rinsed.

Followed with Autosmart Tardis to remove the last of the glue marks from the transport sheets.

Clayed the car with Bilt Hamer soft clay (which to be honest removed very little). Then washed the car again, rinsed and dried with waffle drying towels and my hot air blower. With the paintwork now clan and smooth, I used Werkstat Prime on a DA with a polishing pad, followed by a coat of AF Tripple on a foam applicator.

Finally, 2 coats of GTechniq C2V3 applied leaving the paintwork like glass. Wheels were cleaned and decontaminated and Poorboys wheel sealant applied. All black trim hit with GTechniq C4 trim restorer, and finally glass cleaned with GTechniq G4 Glass polish.

Interior was as you would expect  in mint condition and just need a quick hover and wipe down with a damp microfibre.

So, onto the afterwards....

I like the new shape after seeing this.

One thing i don't understand is why someone would clean a new car themselves rather than VW prep it? Am i missing the point here?

I like everything on that GTD expec those slats on the bumper that cover the fogs..

My mate has a MK6 and I see a Mk7 most days parked up and I dont know why but I just cant get on with them.

That being said if somone gave the keys for free I wouldnt say no! Its good to see that VW are putting a real effort into the GTD's now in terms of styling :)

Do all new cars come 'wrapped' so that you can unwrap your new purchase?

Mine is currently at the 'In Transit' stage, and I'm getting very impatient! lol

Thanks, Paul

I hope I get to unwrap mine!

Had an update this morning, mine is now 'Near the UK'. Hopefully on the ship that just off the coast of the UK :) The tracker now says up to 10 days. Going to pick a numberplate on Friday!

What do all the buttons do around the gear stick?

Mode is the ECo-normal sport mode, which varies steering stiffness, gear shift point, lights (if they follow the steering wheel)

the @ button is for the start stop system

traction control on the other side, the silver button is the engine start stop in the keyless vehicles

in the case of the photo, the owner has park assist and the P button is to disable the park sensors.
