Really nice Mk2! Black 3dr same as mine, so has definitely given my motivation a boost to get it sorted out and back on the road!

What sort of power are you running?

Full conversion on ed38 going for £400 Dan, just need the mounts (which i have btw) and a exhaust sorting, the rest is just chucking it in the car.

Full conversion can be done for <£800 nowadays

Cheers for the comments above guys, much appreciated :-)

Spec on engine is as follows -

* Fully rebuilt AUM engine running on AGU management. Reason being is my previous engine dropped some valves, so an AUM replaced it.
I had a loom made up for the engine. Basically the mk4 loom and the mk2 loom were spliced together, allowing me to keep my current fuse box and keep things looking OEM and tidy.
* Uprated rods, valves, ect used throughout.
* K03s turbo.
* Qpeng down pipe 2.5" into Jetex 16v exhaust system.
* 02a gearbox, Mk3 shifter, VR6 Sach sports kit, New G60 flywheel.
* Diagnostic port added.
* Running standard map at the moment, but is going in for a decent mapping session in the new year. Just haven't had the time lately as I've been sorting out the mk4, and have a mk7 GTi on the way.

Cylinder head will be coming off this weekend though, as it over heated on me, and coolant was found in cylinder 3.
Lets hope it's just a failed HG and not a cracked block.

All the work, apart from the engine rebuild with uprated rods ect, have been done by me. Such an easy car to work on, and a car I'll never sell.

I have a 50+ page build thread on it over on ClubGTi if anyone fancies a good long read.

Will keep you all updated with it.

Cheers. :-)

that's insane everything just looks so right with this car! might be able to go a bit lower but the wheels and tyres look spot on, can see why its popular   :wub:

My mate put a 1.8t in his mk2 but didn't really do it properly and now it doesn't work and has been sat in a garage for two years, been trying to get him moving with it and he mentioned he was looking yesterday and there's still a full conversion online (as above) for about £400, he seems tempted but funds are restricting as ever. I went in it a few times even when timing was out and loads of other niggly bits it still flew and sounded awesome,

Nice work mate :wub:

Got a bare shell waiting for something like this at home, can't honestly see it happening though.

What are the specs on the BBS's mate? My brother is trying to decide what route to go down with wheels on his Bam engined Mk2

They look like 15x9J to me. They sit a little bit further out than mine do:

My wife decided to buy herself a Polo GTI when I purchased my Mk7, so I couldn't resist this picture -

I love the work you've done to it but it needs to be closer to the tarmac mate! If you get the stance right the car is unbeatable especially if you have it mapped.

I don't care if you use coilovers or airbags it just needs to be closer to the tarmac. That's about what i would change at this point. For the rest it's done... unless you can get some really nice interior oem upgrades i wouldn't do anything else (except for the planned remap)

As much as I love it being low, the height it's at at the moment is practical for me, due to too many speed humps and bad roads near where I live.

I tend to take the MK2 out on weekend blasts, and having it drive able is key.

Maybe I might go air in the near future, but its got practically new coilovers on there at the moment.

Next but job is a respray. Will keep you all posted. :)

Hi guys. I know this topic has been dead for a while now, but I need some help.

I recently got a 1991 MK 2 GTi, but with a 2e coversion. Sadly the KE Jet Tronics 16v motor toar it self apart.

This year I want to start fixing it up, I have a few Hondas that needs to learn their place. :) :lol-lol:

I want to be at around 200kw ( 270BHP  ). Saw a few 1.8T 20v motors, and love them.

I dont know the codes yet, but seen you guys talking about AUM and AUG motors.

I Live in South Africa and can get hold of the AUG motor.

If I may ask, why are you running MK4 man? Why not go full aftermarket managment?

Do you guys do aftermarket sprokets and so forth?

Awaiting the replies.

Regards

Aftermarket management I believe would be more tuner friendly? (Someone correct me)

ME3.8 (AGU) is fine for the conversion however, ME7.5 (AUM BAM) has the wideband rather than narrowband, Also the ME7.5 has a Map sensor and DBW. ME7.5 Would be a better, however ME3.8 is fine

IIRC the ME3.8 has to be benched flashed?

Depends who's tuning it. How many ways can you skin a cat? It's down to owner and their access to tuners and what they prefer. There's no right or wrong answer.

IIRC the ME3.8 has to be benched flashed?

*M3.8. The E is for electronic throttle. And nah, it doesn't. Some of the versions of 3.8 can be flashed over the port, but none can be read from the port, needs to be desoldered to read.

Yeah I found that out today.. there are ways around if you no a tuner that can send the ori which I have someone sorting out for me so it saves me trying to extract the map from the ecu
