Which one of the 5 was it then? Big Smile

The Bora!  Picking up tomorrow, so hopefully some of the obligatory grainy, out of focus mobile phone shots taken in the glare of the lights from a Tesco petrol station will follow shortly.

Jon.

They were all Boras! (Weren't they? I'm doubting myself now...)

Standing by for terrible pics [snack]

I might know of a cheap 4mo Bora without an engine?

Surely that'd be alot of fun [;)]

Dan

It was considered very early on but dismissed quite quickly - the added weight was too much of a downside when put against the slight handling benefit in stock form of the 4WD.  The Bora 4Mo is also a relatively rare car so it was difficult to get one for good money.   Both those things combined with us being more familiar with the 1.8T engine, what it can't, can't do, common faults etc and the V6 didn't make any sense.

There's also not a lot you can do to squeeze a little more extra power out of the V6 without putting a charger of some sort on it which would be absolutely pointless for this project - even without the cost of doing that,  it's all about the power to weight ratio and being able to effectively get an appropriate amount of power down early coming out of the corners and carrying the speed through.

Being able to go quickly in a straight line but having to pussyfoot it through the corners does't really impress anyone at a track day - the people who do that are usually the ones you end up stuck behined thinking 'what a cock' as they ruin your corner lines by going slow but then refuse to let you past on the straight bits.

well it will be build along up-to date FIA reglations for the roll cage seat mounts and general safety requirements.

it has been agreed that for now it will be build and used as a pure track-day car to see how it goes and check reliability. if the owners are happy with the performance entering RCN or VLN on the ring will be a considertion and i will be happy to supprt them.

Will let you know though when I do see it...fingers crossed tomorrow night.

I'll be watching out for this! Tabs, Jon and Wilko, you've all proven you can make a mk4 go round a track well - so this project should be epic.

JJ - I've been keeping an eye on the Mk2 progress on FB!

Looks like I may have a petrol counterpart to commence battle with on track! (Until you're running stickies and sub 1100kg!)

Chris.

Sub 1100kg is a big target.  VW Racing only get 1100 on a DTC spec golf mk4 track car.  Considering a bora will probably have a bit more weight, there would need to be some serious weight reduction.

Nice one guys, I've met all 3 of you, Wilko being the last with his mental mk4, & with all 3 of your knowledge I reckon you'll build a pretty good track car, 5k isn't too bad I don't think, just look high & low for bargains [:)]

Look forward to seeing this evolve though [y]

Update: Car is home and scheduled for its first undressing tomorrow night. Plan will be to remove the interior parts to be a point where the front seats can be removed.

Headlining will also be removed.

If anyone fancies any of these parts get in touch.

Pics?

I want to see what I'm going to scraping my knuckles on and swearing at for the next x-months.

Chris - don't forget a DTM Golf has a massive amount of turreted cage in it, all that scaffolding ain't light, this will just have a 6-point. I reckon it can get close to 1100 in time.
