I will keep updating on what i have missed so if there is anything that needs answering, then please post here.

Parts:

Cruise control stalk (1KO 953 513 *) superceded to (1K0 054 690) so you may actually need to search for  (1K0 054 690) instead. There may be many other types.
Repair Wire for Sensor Wiring Connector: 000 979 225 (£1.95)

Tools:

You will need a torx bit to remove wiper motor, not sure on the size.
13mm spanner to remove wind screen wipers.
10mm spanner to remove wiper motor.
Possibly a flat head screw driver.
Torx screwdriver (size 5 or 7) to remove covers behind the steering wheel. (should all be mentioned in the other guide)
..............................................................................................................................................................................................

ADDING MALE CONNECTOR.

First pic is the marked area of where the target is.

DSC000081600x1200-1.jpg

Remove the torx screws marked, over to the far right of where the circle is, there will be two 10mm bolts that will need undoing also, didnt get them in the picture.

DSC000091600x1200-1.jpg

A closer look.

DSC000101600x1200-1.jpg

Remove the left and bottom bolts, same 10mm size, the other bolt is behind the rubber that is marked on the right hand side, just pull it aside.

DSC000121600x1200-1.jpg

Lifting the cover, you will see the target, only one you will be working with is the BLUE connector.

DSC000141600x1200-1.jpg

Start off with uncliping the area marked (1) that will remove the part with the wires in it, circles 2 and 3 need to be unclipped also. DO NOT TRY PULL THE CONNECTOR UP, IT IS MENT TO BE PUSHED DOWN AFTER IT HAS BEEN UNCLIPPED!

DSC000151600x1200-1.jpg

Now we can see the area that has no pin, the new lead will be attached into this slot.

DSC000171600x1200-1.jpg

Forgive me if i have put this the wrong way around but here, you have to slide the red bar to the right so that the connectors can release.

DSC000191600x1200-1.jpg

Now leave everything as it is and go back into the car. Take off the small item box buy opening it and pressing on each side, again pulling it down, it will release, then pull towards you to remove. Here is where you will feed the male side of the wire.

DSC000211600x1200-1.jpg

This is the direct path to the area you was at, lead the wire to the top and leave it there. Go back out and pull the wire.

DSC000221600x1200-1.jpg

This it my own custom made wire. It is an example that i have wired it through the front.

DSC000231600x1200-1.jpg

Here it has been connected to the blue box, pin no (4) if you plan on using a custom made wire, make sure you duck tape that wire to the other wires to avoid movement and disconnection while driving.

DSC000241600x1200-1.jpg

Connect everything back in reverse and return back into the car.
..............................................................................................................................................................

ADDING FEMALE CONNECTOR.

Will upload link of removing steering wheel and adding cruise control as there is already a guide on this. Fast forwarding to Steering wheel control module area.

Cruise control fitted, left hand side, control module that will be worked on.

DSC000251600x1200.jpg

Gently remove both black and yellow connectors, be careful with the yellow one as it is the airbag wires.

DSC000261600x1200.jpg

Number (1) red lock simply need to be pushed out with a flat screw driver, do not pull off, just away from Number (2).
Now push down on number (2) and pull the connector away from the module.

DSC000271600x1200.jpg

I have marked the area that needs the female connector. Simply push the connector till you hear a slight click.

DSC000291600x1200-1.jpg

Here is my cable attached.

DSC000301600x1200.jpg

That comes to the end of it. Will update coding and some other things i missed but for now... have a look and let me know if its quite simple.

Thanks to Eddie_NL for all the help through this.

Well Done, we got there in the end. well you did[Y]

I see that you took the Steering Control module apart[;)]

Just a quick tip for anyone who is going to Retrofit Cruise, look at Pin 13 on the steering Control Module. If the diagnostic wire (Black and White) is present you don't need to remove your wipers.

I see you have autolights and front fogs, did you fit them or were they factory fitted?

Nice write up... its worth mentioning that youll also need a tiny torx screwdriver (size 5 or 7.. cant remember) so you can drop the module under the steering column! Otherwise youll be left with a car with no wheel on and you wont be able to finish the job! [Y]

From your other post your car is a GT TDi so Auto light and Fogs are standard, Xenons are optional.

What we were refering to was Taurus Tem's Car is a 1.4 FSI S which wouldn't have these item fitted as standard

I bought and fitted cruise control to my car for £60.16

Taurus Tem had to make the wire because he fitted a 2nd hand stalk

Making it your self is easy, knowing the port size is not so easy, there are many of these kits going on ebay.

I would suggest using a pin or a couple of pins, yes me and my crazy ideas. Just stick the pin in the port and duck tape the wire to the other ones.

You could always buy the stalk second hand, also from ebay... and just buy the wire from the dealers.

They probably do, but you need to find out the part number

Can we get the 1st post changed? There's a part number which needs amending.
1KO 953 513 has been superceded to 1K0 953 513 E9B9. Which is a standard non-cruise control switch! Which I found out today :(
Correct number should be 1K0 054 690 after a bit of a search. Will hopefully go back tomorrow and see about getting it changed!

A question...

I just got myself the 'Repair Wire for Sensor Wiring Connector: 000 979 225' for £1.66

Quoted the part number to the stealers but the cable doesnt seem quite right [:(]

This is the cable, two female-type ends.  I guess one end goes into the wiring block at the steering control module but the other end is also female and should be male?  Its also quite short - any clues?

 Hi

that is not the correct wire, in any case I doubt you need it.

If you do require the wire you would have to make it using 2x different repair wires. So you would need to cut and join them

To Steering Control Unit Connector Block: 000 979 009 E

To Blue E-Box: 000 979 020 E

Id rather buy it and have it just incase, that way when the wheel comes off, its ready if required.

Can I just ask, what does 000 979 225 reffer to then?

Cheers

I don't know unless I come across it

when you search for a control unit, electrical part or if you look at the wiring harness. It will give a reference to the connector block and the wire which is required for it.

Eddie, iv received all my parts from you today (I beleive it was you that had the clearout on ebay?)

Ayways, the repair wires are going to be at VW on saturday so this might endup being a sunday job if the weather's ok!

I can see the tools required on this post but does anyone know if any other tools are required to take the steering off?

Thanks guys.

I tried to fit my cruise control kit tonight, but when i stripped out the wipers and plastic cover, there was no blue block of wires to put the extra wire into. my car is a 06 jetta tdi with auto wipers lights and a mfd, remaining fuel, mpg, travel time etc. does this mean i cant fit cruise control at all?

You have wasted your time and effort

Your car has the wire already

Just fit the stalk and code it
