Have you any idea just how much car you can buy for £4200? A lot more than a 10 year old high mileage Golf 115bhp tdi, that's what.

Obviously not! Can't find what i want for good money.

Okay, not much to go on as I have no idea what part of the country you're in, but this is way better value. Link.

It's about £800 more, but still within your 5k budget. In my view it's still way overpriced, but negotiations could bring it down a few hundred.

A PD150 on an 'X' plate? Something doesn't add up. Here in the UK at least PD150s came out in the latter half of 2001, so the very earliest models (possibly imports) would've been on a 'Y' plate (and even that's a rarity!). So, the only thing to rule out then is a possible engine conversion at some point. Keen eyed viewers will also spot that the front valance is not of the V6 4Motion type but the standard valance. However, I can see some wood trim in there as well those standard Montreal II alloys.

And for that price - no way! [:P] The only things I would haggle for are those 'Colour Concept' Recaros!

That what made me post it up because the seats are embossed with both Colour Concept and Recaro the ones i've seen in the past have one or the other embossed on them and not both.

Is it bad that i'm now thinking of going for a Fabia vRS?! The Golfs just generally seem overpriced, and for £5k i can get a 2004 Fabia with about 60k miles on. Similar spec to the 130 and with lower insurance group and they're nowhere near as common.

Good little motors the VRs. It'll surprise a lot of people, both on the straight and the twisties. Build quility isn't quite up to the same as the VW, and it's Polo sized rather than Golf sized, but they're a crackin little motor.

Don't give up, look harder and be willing to travel nationwide for the right car.

Can you up the budget and get into a Mk5 Golf? There are some good deals to be had on a 140 GT TDI for (as I've said before) just about £1200 more than that Golf you've just linked to on Pistonheads. You'll get a much better car for your money, and avoid the loonies who think the Mk4 Golf is some sort of a goldmine.

I almost bought a Fabia VRS before my 130 Golf turned up, Cracking little cars those Skodas but they seem thin on the ground at realistic prices. Hope you find a car if not you can buy mine[:D
