Yeah, I was at SVag last year.  :) Collected it that day from Touch-ups for some paint.

What d'you mean Chris?  It's been fitted for over a year now, only just got some pictures of it. :/ Always seemed reet.  That said, I was talking to some guy and he said he had the same issue; couldn't connect when the laptop was on charge, he wasn't sure why.

My chrome-tipped window switches have arrived this morning, will swap over to my one-touch rear switch when I get home I think.  Maybe some logging later.  Still waiting for the USB charger, should be a few days.  Ordered some Smart ForFour LED's for the centre console - Project Illumination commences.

Plan is to have them in where the cup holders are to see how it looks.  When they arrive at the Merc dealer I'll go grab them, hopefully the charger is there too and I spend a weekend putting it together. :)

:) Gonna get the switches in, get the centre console lit up and get a chrome tipped switch for the fuel release cap. Got my Polo 6R heater controls in too, so now they're chrome-tipped too! :)

Need to finish the dim footwell lights when driving, but just need to source a good dimmer and pop it back in! Bought an R32 subframe the other night, so will build that up with polybushes etc and fab up some adapters for brakes; but that'll be a while, need to save money.

For now, some interior bits will keep me going! :)

Swapped over all the bits to my one-touch switch and gave the net-optic stuff a quick brush over to finish it. :)

Going to look at getting a fuel rocker style switch too.

(I think) I had a nice blether with you about your self re-mapping, your top mounts and the odd problem you had with your fornt ARB

-But I don't remember the R32 front bumper, is that an addition after Svag or was it not you?

Yeah man! That was me! Had a stock GTi front end on it with a JOM gayblade thing. Got the R bumper just after. :)

I've got air so the old top mounts are sitting doing nothing now! I'm sure they mentioned changing Svag to somewhere with tarmac too!

I wish I knew more about the mapping side of things. Looking at sticking an 064 on my LCR at the mo and would love to be able to at least get a basic map set up for it myself. I'll be taking it to Niki/Bill in the long run either way, but must give you a sense of achievement/satisfaction knowing you've got there yourself. I've had a play with Galletto/MPPS and WinOLS before (on an old pd150 I had) but not sure I trust myself on something half decent! :P

I've flicked through the rest of the thread recently but just to check - still on ME7.5 with this?

It's a really good turbo, it's just starting to take off in the 1.8t world. My build in total was about 1200 and that included a spare block, ECU, loom, rods, bearings, gaskets, turbo, injectors, FMIC, pipework etc. Basically the whole thing.

Build for cheap, still being on it. Last few days have been really abusive on her, but it's usually just a few pulls here and there every few days.

If you've got OLS, get stuck in! :) If you need mappacks, I've got a few for CB/HN files you can have. Most of my stuff is on my Google drive and I'm not scared to share it. :)

Yup, still ME7.5. ME7Logger and ECUxPlot is what is giving me data. It's good to log, I'm really enjoying it. :)

Haha, you may live to regret that offer! I'm building a rodded block up at the moment (when workload allows) but during the periods in between I'm figuring out all the details for the turbo and CADing up an adapter (which I'm fairly sure I've not just about got nailed). Like you I'm trying to do the build on a bit of a budget and so far have done everything on the car myself, though that's largely a case of bringing it back from the wreck the former owner left it in to this point :P
(E38 link: http://www.edition38...howtopic=543007)

Caught up with Prawn over Christmas (have known him a while, used to ride trials with him >10 years ago which makes me feel old!) and we were discussing his setup over a pint on Dartmoor. Got home, thought it over for a couple of hours and found a buyer for the Hybrid 023, new ceramic Pro4 mani and 3" Cobra turbo back I'd just bought to clear funds. Looking forward to making the next step of progress and getting this lot squared away.

Fortunately for you I've just swapped working near Glasgow (Faslane) to Plymouth (home) else I might have had to hunt you down and had a snoop at this in a little more detail...

Sounds awesome! :) Nick's is a really good build, it was his that made me get the 064. It's been pretty sturdy so far!

Navy? My best mate just joined and is currently dotting between Faslane and Plymouth for training! I won't disclose names for obvious reasons! :P

Yarp. Was due to be there until June but a few things have changed and I've been pretty lucky in that it means I'll get to pop home on occasion rather than being 9 hours/500 miles/£300 flights away.

As you say Nick's build is solid as they come. To get half way there would be a result in itself, though then I'll have to find a cheap diff too to get the power down properly. Do you have any traction issues with yours at all?

If you ever want a gander around the car feel free to ask when you're up this way. I'm 20 minutes from Balloch, so pretty close to Helensburgh.

Traction issues? I don't want to talk about it. The 5 speed box (I've killed 4/5) sucks. And I don't have a diff. 3rd is okay in the damp, but not great. 4th into 5th is fine. 1st and 2nd don't work. Even with a diff, it'll suck!

I think spunky (George Seamons) was selling a full 6 speed setup cheap if you wanted to convert. Not sure if it's still up for grabs but could find out if it helps. Prawny used to go through boxes like nobody's business til he made the switch!

I saw that! Was mega cheap for a 6 speed! :( I'd need to change clutch too. I've got a lot of things I want to do (interior wise, brakes and seats too!) and a 6 speed swap is down the line of things.

Really need to get a quick rack/hubs too. :/

At that rate you're almost better off finding an entire car being broken and pinching what you need, selling a few other bits to cover your costs. Means laying out cash up front, time, effort, space and hassle though so not exactly a quick and convenient option at all which is a shame.

I'd love to have the space and time for a breaker vehicle at home as well as my own, it'd basically fund my LCR habit, but don't have either so it's a no go. Denied!

Rack/hubs/wishbones makes a good difference for sure. If from an LCR grab the brakes too. Did them all on my old Leon Cupra (non R) and transformed the handling. On my current R with bushes, solid top mounts and so on it's another step again.

My little cheapy Chinese charger came on Friday.  Phone was bone dead last night and put it onto charge this morning.  Was fully charged in an hour and when I pulled it out to see if it was hot it wasn't; so it's pretty efficient! :)

Hacked it up and started mating it to the original cigarette socket.

Took the grinder to the original face:

Sanded it back and gave it a coat of paint, will assemble it tomorrow.  Should look tidy. :)

    I need to get a few bits painted this year, get seats sorted and get the brakes on and I'll be pretty happy.

I'm fine with my FWD shitbox! haha.

On a plus note, getting some air fresheners from Autobrite today and hopefully get to pick up some bits coming from Mercedes Germany.  Just have to figure out where the dealer is in Glasgow. :Y: Also trashed some clusters in the breakers at the weekend for some LCD's.  Going to invert them for the cluster! :)

Pretty happy with them! :) Gonna give them another little bit of filler and a sand down.  I lose interest/patience quickly so they were a bit rushed towards the end.  Going to have a look again and get them smoothed out.  It's hard to do because it's so tight.

Pleased with them overall though. :)

I got an advert on Facebook at lunchtime from a company called Import Underground.  They're currently selling AEM Widebands for £78 delivered from the States.  Much cheaper than you can get over here! :) Will be looking at cleaning up the face as they're really deep to try and get a smaller one similar to the NewSouth gauges.

While the GF currently holds onto my calipers until I see her next, I thought I'd start studying brake discs.

Original:
Diameter (mm): 288
Thickness (mm): 25
Min (mm): 23
HT (mm): 34
B (mm): 65
N: 5

Merc ML:
Diameter (mm): 345
Thickness (mm): 32
Min (mm): 30
HT (mm): 51
B (mm): 67
N: 5

Merc ML Later:
Diameter (mm): 350
Thickness (mm): 32
Min (mm): 29
HT (mm): 54.5
B (mm): 67
N: 5

Nissan 370z:
Diameter (mm): 354.6
Thickness (mm): 32
Min (mm): 30
HT (mm): 49.3
B (mm): 68
N: 5

Jaguar XF:
Diameter (mm): 355
Thickness (mm): 32
Min (mm): 30
HT (mm): 48
B (mm): 71
N: 5

Currently got that as a list.  The ML discs are a little small and are quite tall.  The Nissan discs are a funky size and PCD.  The Jaguar discs seem just the ticket.

Will see if I can sort a set and start mocking them up. :)

Wow all really impressive! Out of pure curiosity did you do any courses to do with cars or just pick this all up as a hobby?

You've helped out on my cries for help and steered me right a few times!

Would love to do half the stuff you've done here keep it up! Don't suppose I'll see the car at gti fest this year?
