Unlike my Golf MK6, I cannot see anyway of muting the radio from any controls on the steering wheel. This seems a retrograde step. I used to be able to put the radio on for traffic announcements and then mute the radio thus allowing the traffic info to come through as necessary.

Hi Marvin,

There's a button on the right hand side of the multi-function steering wheel.

Vw golf Mk7 Voice control/Mute button

It initiates voice control if your car has that but if not, it just mutes the infotainment system.

Hope that helps,
Stuart

How stupid of me. I thought that was a return button for menus and was pressing the button above which I believe initiates the phone.
Thanks very much Stuart. Long time, no hear!

Hi Stuart.

Have just been outside and turned the radio on AND the ignition but didn't start the car. When I pressed Voice Control button all I got was a warning message on the Infotainment display to the effect that I should contact my dealer about activation of Voice control and so I pressed OK  on the screen to get rid of it. Perhaps I will try it with the engine on next time?

Certainly no muting of the radio at the moment.

Regards

I don't think it would be affected by whether the engine is running or not.

If your car's Voice Control is not activated I wonder if you could disable it in the settings so that the button does act as a mute button?

Well I have thought of that and did look. The dealer has been phoning me up a few times and I have been missing him for one reason or another but at lunchtime he did phone again, as a courtesy call and he asked whether I had any questions and that is one I presented to him. He said that the latest cars had lost that function but one never knows whether to believe them or not. Anyway time will tell and I have only had the car 5 days.
