i picked up my golf 1.8T for 3750pounds in mint condition, plus the colours black[:D].  i bought it off this women who had bought it from new, it had full stamped vw service history aswell.  but its got 93,000 miles on the clock and it drives faultless.  think i got a real bargain.

for  5 grand you should get a minter mate.

That sounds great, i'm selling my 1.6 soon and want to spend no more than about 4500 on a 1.8T, thought i was dreaming until i read this!

Said numerous times that you could have had mine. Y reg 1.8T with the better turbo and DBW in absolutely excellent condition. Drove away yesterday for 4k.

Dan, I didnt tell you! Sorry mate! But would have been excellent for you as it was in Devon anyway. Oh well, I advertised it enough!

Yeah i knew you were selling it mate, but havent even put my old car up for sale yet, something i'm not looking forward to judging by the bullsh1t you went through, i read your other post.

I want a 3dr anyway to be honest with you. Anyway, what do you mean when you say better turbo?

K03s as opposed to the K03.

Started in 2001 and is capable, so I believe from readin other threads here of producing more power, easier, or being able to cope with more power, one of those 2!

Is it the one with 180 as opposed to 150 brake?

Well my dad has been out today and found a possibility, purely by
chance. But I think hes asking too much. Its not officially for sale
yet either, my dad just overheard!

It's abosolutely immaculate, 3 door in flash red.

70k miles on a T plate, FSH and loads of reciepts. Cambelt done.

New 18" RS4 wheels and brand new tyres, and it's been lowered.

Also has a dump valve (not sure of the type but im betting its an atmospheric)

Unmarked cloth interior.

2 owners.

Hes asking 6.5k for it! To me this seems steep but im keen to hear
others thoughts. Probs 1000 worth of extras as theres a cd player etc
too.

Still, dont think i'd part with 6.5 grand!!

Thoughts?

Aye thought so!

What would you think was reasonable?

I wouldnt pay that much to be fair, its way overbudget anyway.

May well make him an offer though, cos i would be extremely suprised if he gets that.

I wouldnt even expect it to be that much in a dealer!

Thanks, thought it was a bit to much i know alot of people on here have had the same (if not better) for less. Was impressed with how imaculate it was though and decided to spend more than i had set out too. Good luck with your car search. You will find one you like soon and be extremely happy when its yours!

Well just been for a look at the one for 6.5k!

it's got a carbonio cai and bailey twin piston valve aswell as fully
colour coded valances...on top of what i've already mentioned.

Lovely car, but no way worth the asking price in my opinion. He
mentioned how a similar thing happened with his old car (ie approached
to selll before it was even advertised) and he said how the bloke tried
to knock the price down and he said no....which of course basically
translates as "dont offer me less than my asking price, it's not even
advertised yet"

It really is lovely mind

Carbonios sound cool too!!

Well I will let him know that i may be interested if the price was better but otherwise i'll jog on.

Going to look at a mk3 16v gti 2nite actually.....full leather, 62k miles with FSH, 3 door....2500!

As much as I love the mk4, i dont want to be cleared out in buying one :(

Will see

Have you looked into how much insuring a 1.8T will cost? Just interested to know roughly how much it'll cost for me to insure one.

Thats cool, 900 isnt bad for a group 14 car.

i'm 20 with 3 years NCB, no pass plus though,

Should work out about the same.

Well I think my hunt is over...and it's looking likely to end in another mk3.

Just been to look at one....16v gti

1998 R

62k Miles

FSH (mostly VW), loads of reciepts, previous tax discs/MOT certs, etc - real nice bloke too which inspires muchos confidence.

3 door, Full heated leather, air con, sun roof, pioneer headunit/6 cd
changer, computer thats shows mpg etc, leather steering wheel....all
the toys.

Recently 600 spent...new brakes, new exahaust, new battery...some other bits and bobs.

He was originally asking 3500 for it, which seemed a little
high.....but i asked if he would come down, and he says he'd take
2900.....which i think is good! Might try for 2800 but i wont feel
robbed if he says no

Only bad thing - drivers side rear arch has been scuffed and does need to be painted.

Thats actually about all thats wrong!! It really is immaculate.

As much as I have wanted a mk4, i dont wana wipe myself out in buying
one....because by the time its insured thats all my money gone, and i
have to be sensible as ive got another year of uni to go. In getting a
mk3 i pay half the price, but by no means get half the car.

Not a single mk4 ive looked at has had the miles, spec, or condition of this mk3!!

I drove it, big smiles all round lol

So going for a second look on monday so my dad can give it a proper check....but think i've found myself a car.

Cheers for all the help i've had in this thread.

You can get yourself a MK4 for that kind of money.

Will either be a 1.4, 1.6 or a high miler.

Be able to get yourself a W reg 1.6 with about 90k on the clock though for around 3.2k

Dunno if thats what you want, but it would bring the insurance down over the GTI for a start. GTI sounds like a nice car though.

I would definitely feel like I had made the wrong descision if I was to get a non gti!

Not just for the performance but also the exterior trim, interior, gadgets...etc

Yeah the mk3 is lovely...should I buy it I will post a few pics...

Just wondering though, even though i've seen all the papers for it...is it still worth forking out 35 quid for an HPI check?
