Surely you can get a new S3 for that?

Bingo - S3 is well ahead of the golf now, spec is MUCH better and the performance of the 2.0T and the S3 platform will whip the R32's ass. The R32 is purely down to the sound. I bought one as I don't want to go fast in it, the idea was to cruise.

Now thats thrown a spanner in the works. Can get an 2006 Audi S3 Quattro for £15k and its 261 bhp, 0-60 in 5.5 secs, 155mph top speed, 31 mpg and only £260 per year tax. Insurance works out a little bit more than the R32 but not a great deal more.

I know you are... and unless you drive like total granny you will struggle to get 30. And if you are gonna drive it slowly you might as well save the money and get a 1.4TSI

Good choice on the Mk4 R32, my mate just bought a mint black one with about 30k on it, great car!

Im not sure yet, would love that Audi S3 but its out of my price range. The Mk4 R32 is more affordable and if i could get a mint blue or silver 3 door with low mileage for £9k i would be happy.

Finding a mint MK4 R32 is a task in itself mate, lot of junk out there!

Bear in mind the fuel costs though seriously Tom, they REALLY arn't cheap to run - I can get 31mpg on a LONG run but usually get 22-25mpg.

For instance - my car ran into 0 miles on the miles to empty yesterday. I put 30 quid in and I went to the cinema and back to the train station (about  50 miles altogether) and I've come to work this morning - trip shows less than 40 miles left already.

They drive SO much better than the FWD mk4's it really is like a completely different car.

Get a blue one! They are faster.

Yeh thats the only thing im worried about Dan is the fuel costs, everything else works out ok. I only fill up my Anni once a month and will put £60-70 in and will get 500 miles off that. If i had a choice i would go for the blue R32 but if i saw a mint silver one with low mileage i would go for that.

Unless i keep what i got and just get up to R-Tech for a cheeky remap and sach uprated clutch like i have been on about doing for the past two years.

Rather buy the same reg S3 at half the price of the mk4 R32.

Rather buy a new S3 at the same price as a £12k + mk5 too.

Each to their own i guess but i would be sticking with the anni PD and looking at improving performance.

Just an idea- how about an older s3 but still the new shape, I think the new shape started around 04/05? and just put the new facelift front end on, would save alot of money possibly

Answer to your question: YES, I would sell my anni for a MK4 R32 if it wasnt for the huge difference in running costs.

Bearing in mind the yearly tax is more than double what we pay now plus the extra fuel costs theres no way I could afford to run one.

Do I remember right youve got a works car?
